Ella Elsie Martin

January 3, 1935
December 26, 2025
✟
❀
Ella Elsie Martin passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, December 26, 2025. Her journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God, and her absence has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of her family and friends. We ask that you remember her not for the burden of Alzheimer’s in her last years, but for her true nature and the beautiful impact it had on all those whose lives she touched.
Ella was born on January 3, 1935, in Eatonia, Saskatchewan to Tobias and Emilie Klein. She grew up on the family farm together with her cherished siblings: Anne, Helmut, Alfred, Alma, Hilda and Irvin. As a devoted Nurses’ Aide at the local hospital, she was known for her “magic touch” - especially with sick children. After exchanging 223 letters during a courtship of just over a year, she married the love of her life, Reverend Harold Martin, on June 20, 1956.
Ella dedicated her life to working side by side with Harold in a ministry that spanned 8 Lutheran congregations over 40 years. She volunteered with numerous organizations, served as church secretary and a team captain for the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen, taught Sunday School, initiated women’s service groups, hosted social events, won awards for designing church banners, sang in the choir, and meticulously cleaned every inch of the church. Her creativity, organization, gracious manner, and sense of humor together with her tireless work ethic, were skills for which she was admired. When asked for her most significant accomplishment, however, she wrote: “I gave birth to 2 wonderful daughters!” While Lori and Lynette grew up to appreciate many of Ella’s own hobbies of reading, camping, travelling, singing, and live theatre, their greatest gift was their mother’s boundless love, time, and guidance. In later years, Ella continued her support by amazing her grandchildren with her ability to create things from scratch, treating them to personalized adventures and thematic lunches, and babysitting with gentle joy.
Ella is survived by her daughters, Lorelle Cholka (David), Lynette Kostiuk (Raymond), grandchildren Tamara Kostiuk and Aleah Paterson (Scott), and great-grandchild Grayson Paterson. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Harold, her parents and parents-in-law, 6 siblings, 4 brothers-in-law, and 2 sisters-in-law.
Believing that “whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (Romans 14:8), Ella now rests in the eternal grace of God.
Many thanks to those who helped to care for Ella during her illness: Dr. Walsh, Maggie Wall, Bonnie Quinn, Bridge Home Care, and the staff at Cedar Creek.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at CHRIST TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 416 12 St S, LETHBRIDGE, AB., with Pastor Olivier Ravelojaona officiating.
A Graveside Service will be held at ROYAL VIEW MEMORIAL CEMETERY following the Funeral Service.

Roberta "Bobby" Jo-Anne Fallon

December 22, 1970

✟
❀
It is with great sorrow that the family of Roberta (Bobby) Jo-Anne Fallon announces her passing on December 24, 2025. She passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 55 years.
Bobby was born on April 22, 1970. She was the first child born to Brenda Rogers and Keith Fallon, and the first grandchild for both sets of grandparents.
Bobby called the family farm in Monarch home, having lived there for most of her childhood and adolescence. Her adult years were spent in Coaldale and Lethbridge.
When she was ten, the family moved to Faro, Yukon Territory. Here, Bobby got a taste of life in the north, experiencing the cold arctic winters, the continual daylight in the summer, and the vast outdoors and wildlife that the Yukon provided. Her stay in Faro was limited to two years, from 1980-1982, when the downfall in economy forced the closure of the mine and the move back to the farm.
Bobby got her schooling at Noble Central School from grade one to grade four. Grades five and six were at Del Vangorda school in Faro, and grades seven to twelve were spent back in Nobleford.
After she left school, she worked in maintenance at McDonald's for a number of years. When she was in her late thirties, Bobby went back to school and eventually obtained her degree in sociology. While attending university, she volunteered with the University Women’s Centre as an advocate for women’s rights.
Bobby was currently employed in the Lethbridge School District as an educational assistant. Here, she found her passion was working with children. She often spoke about her kids and how they enriched her life. Bobby had a huge kind heart and was a champion not only for women and children, but she also had a soft heart for animals. Over the years, she adopted numerous cats that were deemed unadoptable and that no one else wanted, giving them a loving home.
Bobby is survived by her mother Brenda Rogers; sister Krista (Brad) MacNeil; niece Allysia (Murray) MacNeil; nephew Darren MacNeil; step brother Mark (Alyshia) Rogers; step sister Cindy Rogers; step niece Makayli Rogers; step nephews Cowen Rogers and Jace White; uncle Jamie (Karen) Piper; aunt Carol Bennett; cousins Alison Piper, Trysten Piper, Shelley Holzli and Dana Ferguson; and her two cats Quincy and Oscar.
She was predeceased by her father, Keith Fallon; stepfather Tom Rogers; grandparents Ralph and Lillian Piper, and Jerrald and May Fallon.
Bobby was an active member of the pride community and a huge Star Trek fan. She and her nephew Darren would take part annually in the Star Trek conventions in Vulcan, Alberta. Magic was Bobby’s hobby. She was a self-taught amateur magician and got really quite good at it, even to the point of inventing her own magic tricks.
To honour Bobby’s memory, anyone who wishes can make donations to the Lethbridge YWCA or the Lethbridge Animal Shelter.
As Bobby was a private person, a private family gathering will be held to commemorate her life.
Cremation has been entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.

He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jacquie (John) Beverley, Allison (Matt) Haugseng, Scott Rempel, Vickie (Paul) Vanderpyl, Jennifer Giesbrecht, Nolan (Hayleigh) Hranac, and Joel Hranac; and his great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Becca, Tori, Scotia, and Bretyn.
He also leaves behind Elfriede’s children Carla (Reynold) Woelcke, Martin (Natasja) Willms, and Lauren (Laura Lee) Willms; and grandchildren Caleb, Andrew, Maggie (Yuvraj), Jaxsyn, Aschyr, Ethan, and Bryn; great-grandchildren Matteo and Arianna.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Wilhelm and Maria (Klassen) Giesbrecht; his first wife of nearly 50 years, Frieda (Willms) Giesbrecht; his son Eckard Giesbrecht; his son-in-law Garry Hranac; his brothers Jake and Peter; as well as all of his brothers- and sisters-in-law and his parents-in-law.
Bill was born on August 2, 1929, in Osterwick, Ukraine, the oldest of three sons. After the death of his father in 1935, the family endured very difficult years. In 1943, Bill, his mother, and his brothers began their journey to Germany, traveling by train, horse, and wagon. Following the end of the war, the family settled in Bavaria. It was there that C.F. Klassen from Canada was searching for Mennonites in Germany to sponsor immigration to Canada. By 1948, sponsorship was secured through Bill’s mother’s cousin in Hague, Saskatchewan.
On August 2, 1949—Bill’s 20th birthday—the family boarded a ship, arriving in Quebec City on August 14, 1949. From there, they traveled by train to Winnipeg, then to Saskatoon, and eventually settled in Coaldale, Alberta, where Bill’s uncles lived and work was available in the sugar beet fields. Life in a new country was challenging, with long workdays and a new language to learn.
In 1950, Bill was baptized and became a member of the Coaldale Mennonite Church, where he remained a faithful member for 75 years until his passing. On August 30, 1953, Bill married Frieda, and together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage until her passing in January 2003. They were blessed with three children: Karin (1957), Eckard (1959), and Rita (1964).
Bill began working for Mo-Tires in 1953 and spent 35 years with the company, serving as sales manager, credit manager, store manager, and finally as retread plant manager.
Bill cherished time with family and created many fond memories, including countless hours soaking in the hot springs at Radium, trips to Penticton with children and grandchildren, vacations to Hawaii, a trip to Disneyland, and many summer road trips throughout British Columbia, the northwestern United States, and to Mount Rushmore.
In 1988, Bill’s son Eckard became ill and was eventually diagnosed with MS. These were difficult years for the family, and Eckard passed away in April 2002. In January 2003, Bill’s wife Frieda passed away following a five-year journey with ovarian cancer.
After spending some time on his own, Bill met Elfriede, and they were married in April 2005. They were blessed with 20 years together.
In August 2019, the entire family gathered to celebrate Bill’s 90th birthday. Two weeks later, Bill suffered his first stroke, which significantly affected his ability to communicate due to global aphasia. A second stroke followed in November 2019, resulting in the total loss of his speech. The past six years were challenging, with the final three years spent at the Coaldale Health Centre.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Coaldale Health Centre for the compassionate and wonderful care Bill received, especially during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Coaldale and District Handi-Ride Association Ltd, PO Box 463 Stn Main, Coaldale, AB T1M 1M5

Margaret Beryl Pommen

December 18, 2025
✟
❀
Mrs. Margaret Pommen, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ed Pommen, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Thursday, December 18, 2025, a month shy of her 102 birthday.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 75 years, Edward; grandson Kevin Rasmussen and siblings Alice, Bertha, Albert and Oscar.
She is survived by her children Norma (Lenard) Rasmussen, Judy (William) Logan, Gordon (Diane) Pommen, Joan Pommen; grandchildren Craig, Karyn, Stacey, Jennifer, Courtney; 11 great-grandchildren as well as her siblings Jean, Louise, Alvin, Audrey, and Roy.
Margaret was born in Readlyn, Saskatchewan in 1924. She was the first born of 10 children of Anna and Thomas Clark. Even at an early age she was a great support to her parents as she helped raise her siblings and helped with all household chores. During the Depression it was not all work and no play. Margaret loved music and she learned to play the guitar and loved to dance. After moving to Raymond in 1940 she met Ed, and they married in 1941. While raising her own four children Margaret continued to remain very close with her siblings.
Farming life was very busy and in the early years there was no electricity and no indoor plumbing. Margaret helped in all aspects from milking cows, mending irrigation canvases, and baking and cooking meals for all the farm workers. She also was active in the Raymond United Church. Her generosity was noted and many lasting friendships were formed. Her children were her priority, and she encouraged them in all their endeavors. She was very proud of her family.
Margaret was also very creative. She became an accomplished seamstress and also knitted, crocheted, quilted and did ceramics. Everything was done to a high standard. Margaret excelled at recycling as she could find a second-hand use for almost everything. She welcomed anyone and everyone into her home, but she had a magical touch with young children, especially her grandchildren.
In 1983 Ed and Margaret bought a lot in Lethbridge. Margaret then designed the house they built which was a great accomplishment. She soon became involved in the community, enjoying clogging at the seniors’ centre and joining the Creative Fingers group at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. During this time, she also spent many hours looking after her aging mother.
Margaret had many roles during her long life, but the one that she consistently had from an early age was caregiver. She was thankful for her many God given talents and strove to share them and help others. Even when she moved to St. Therese Villa, she continued to help the other residents and participated in community projects. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at St. Therese Villa for the exceptional care provided to our mother. She truly cherished each and every one of you.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet the family on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Therese Villa, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Henry Arthur Reimer

May 17, 1936
December 18, 2025
✟
❀
Henry Arthur Reimer of Coaldale, beloved husband of Marian, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus with his family at his side at Chinook Regional Hospital on December 18, 2025, at the age of 89 years.
Henry was born on May 17, 1936, in Coaldale, Alberta to Jacob and Anna Reimer the fifth of six children. Henry became a Christian at the age of 17 at a crusade. He farmed all his life on the farm he grew up on north of Coaldale starting at age 16 and retiring at the age of 85. Although he was a dairy farmer and grew other crops his pride and joy was growing a good crop of sugar beets for which he claimed the Sugar Beet King title multiple times. Henry met Anne Siemens and they married on November 12, 1966. They had four wonderful children James, Raylene, Dennis and Terry. Life had its challenges with the loss of his father when he was 16 and his first wife Anne after a lengthy battle with cancer in 1982.
God blessed Henry by bringing Marian (Toews) into his life for the next 41 years to walk side by side as his best friend and mother to his children. Henry loved his family and delighted in all his children and grandchildren. He loved life on the farm and his cats, lots of cats. Retirement brought a move into Coaldale where he found new enjoyment riding his bike all over town.
Dad loved singing in many different groups and had a life-time of involvement at Coaldale MB Church. At the core of who Dad is, is Christ. Loving, kind, compassionate and seeking after God’s heart. Bible reading, devotions and prayer at breakfast every single day. And for the last 41 years, each day ended with mom and him having devotions again. Dad demonstrated everyday how to seek after God’s own heart. He didn’t need words, you only had to look at his life. His relationship with God led him to be an incredible husband, father and friend. He faithfully prayed for his children and grandchildren desiring each to have a personal relationship with Christ. We will miss his jokes, drawing cartoon characters on napkins or scrap pieces of paper, the home movies he took over a lifetime and the phone calls.
Left to cherish his memory and his hugs are his wife Marian; son James (Chandra and children: Rachel and Jason Klassen, Rebeccah and fiancé Miguel Challoner, Sophia and Grant Martens); daughter Raylene (Stephen De Bruyn and son Joshua); son Dennis (Trina and children: Samuel and Taylor, Benjamin and Ryann Liebreich, Matthew, Luke, Samson, Vance) and son Terry (Kara and children: Levi and Tyson).
The family would like to thank the amazing staff in the ICU at Chinook Regional Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 – 18 St, Coaldale, with Pastor Gary Burke officiating.
A private family internment will be held prior to the service.
