Margaret Beryl Pommen

Official Obituary of

21/1/1924 - to - 18/12/2025

Mrs. Margaret Pommen, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ed Pommen, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Thursday, December 18, 2025, a month shy of her 102 birthday.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 75 years, Edward; grandson Kevin Rasmussen and siblings Alice, Bertha, Albert and Oscar.

She is survived by her children Norma (Lenard) Rasmussen, Judy (William) Logan, Gordon (Diane) Pommen, Joan Pommen; grandchildren Craig, Karyn, Stacey, Jennifer, Courtney; 11 great-grandchildren as well as her siblings Jean, Louise, Alvin, Audrey, and Roy.

Margaret was born in Readlyn, Saskatchewan in 1924. She was the first born of 10 children of Anna and Thomas Clark. Even at an early age she was a great support to her parents as she helped raise her siblings and helped with all household chores. During the Depression it was not all work and no play. Margaret loved music and she learned to play the guitar and loved to dance. After moving to Raymond in 1940 she met Ed, and they married in 1941. While raising her own four children Margaret continued to remain very close with her siblings.

Farming life was very busy and in the early years there was no electricity and no indoor plumbing. Margaret helped in all aspects from milking cows, mending irrigation canvases, and baking and cooking meals for all the farm workers. She also was active in the Raymond United Church. Her generosity was noted and many lasting friendships were formed. Her children were her priority, and she encouraged them in all their endeavors. She was very proud of her family.

Margaret was also very creative. She became an accomplished seamstress and also knitted, crocheted, quilted and did ceramics. Everything was done to a high standard. Margaret excelled at recycling as she could find a second-hand use for almost everything. She welcomed anyone and everyone into her home, but she had a magical touch with young children, especially her grandchildren.

In 1983 Ed and Margaret bought a lot in Lethbridge. Margaret then designed the house they built which was a great accomplishment. She soon became involved in the community, enjoying clogging at the seniors’ centre and joining the Creative Fingers group at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. During this time, she also spent many hours looking after her aging mother.

Margaret had many roles during her long life, but the one that she consistently had from an early age was caregiver.  She was thankful for her many God given talents and strove to share them and help others. Even when she moved to St. Therese Villa, she continued to help the other residents and participated in community projects. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at St. Therese Villa for the exceptional care provided to our mother. She truly cherished each and every one of you.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet the family on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 – 11 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Therese Villa, or to a charity of one’s choice.
