Gladys Young
Official Obituary of
15/10/1940 - to - 6/4/2026
Mrs. Gladys Young of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Mr. Archie Young, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the age of 85 years.
Gladys was born on October 15, 1940, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and was raised in Macdowall. Her father played in a band that frequently performed at the town hall, a vibrant hub of the community’s social life. Gladys and her sisters were known as wonderful dancers and greatly enjoyed those lively gatherings.
Following her schooling, Gladys attended Prince Albert Business School, where she studied secretarial arts. She began her career at the Royal Bank in Prince Albert, working as a teller and later advancing to a supervisory role. She married Archie Young on August 19, 1961, and after several years, they were blessed with their daughter, Wendy.
Gladys and Archie later moved to Picture Butte to be closer to their grandson, Richard, when he was a toddler. Gladys worked at Sears Canada in Lethbridge in customer service until her retirement. Together, Gladys and Archie shared a love of gardening, canning, and preserving the fruits of their labor. She was a devoted and playful grandmother, creating cherished memories with Richard, sometimes at her own peril, as she enthusiastically joined in activities like tobogganing and fast spins on the merry-go-round. Gladys had a wonderful sense of humor, always ready to laugh and, most importantly, to laugh at herself.
Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Wendy (Shane) Brown; and her grandson, Richard (Haley) Brown.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Agnes Campbell; her brother, Richard Campbell; and her sisters, Mariel Ostermayer and Pearl Janzen.
An Inurnment will take place at Deer Park Cemetery in Saskatchewan. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at Chinook Regional Hospital for their care over the past several years, as well as to the staff of Buffalo Grace Manor and Heritage Lodge for their kindness and support.
