MR. ROGER NICHOLAS YEOMAN of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret ""Wiggie"" Joyce Yeoman, passed away at the St. Michael's Health Care Centre on Monday, June 28, 2010 at the age of 71 years.
Roger was born December 8, 1938 in Southampton, Hampshire, England, to Thomas and Evaline Yeoman. Graduating from technical college in 1956, he joined the British Merchant Marines as a radio officer, and worked with Cruise Ship companies that took him to ports all over the world. He met Wiggie in England and they married in Noranda, Quebec. Roger's career with Transport Canada involved various moves across Canada, eventually settling down in Lethbridge, and retiring in 1994.
Roger had many hobbies including graphic design, computers, and recreational walking, but his involvement with St. Augustine's Church was his abiding interest: his duties included the Stephen Ministry, Lay Reading, and Verger work.
Roger was a long time and very active member of Rotary (past President) and Probus. He also volunteered for many years with the Lethbridge Airshow and National Association of Federal Retirees (FSNA), among many other volunteer jobs.
The highlights of Roger's retirement included a tour to Israel and to see the Passion Play in 2000 and a hike through Spain on the Camino Trail in 2007.
Roger was a kind and gentle man, very humble in his work and achievements. He remained at peace as he faced his illness.
Besides his loving wife Wiggie, Roger is survived by his three sons; Tom Yeoman, Greg Yeoman, and Allan (Claudia) Yeoman, his sister Christine (Mike) Seiler and family, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Evaline, and his brothers Donald and Keith, and sister Betty.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at ST. AUGUSTINE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411 11 Street South, Lethbridge, with Reverend Andrew Horne, Canon Allan McCuaig, and The Reverend Chris Roth, officiating.
