Cecily Yanosik
Official Obituary of
29/8/1928 - to - 17/11/2011
It is with profound sadness that the family of MRS. CECILY GWYNETH YANOSIK ( nee Muir), beloved and cherished wife of Clarence George Yanosik (retired Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta) announce Cecily's peaceful passing in Lethbridge on Thursday November 17, 2011 at the age of 83 years of acute heart failure following recovery from spinal surgery in mid July.
Cecily was born in Vancouver, BC on August 29, 1928 to Marjorie & Melvin Muir. In March 1946 Cecily moved to Lethbridge to live with an aunt, and she lived in Lethbridge the rest of her life, although she was always proud to call Vancouver her place of birth.
Upon arriving in Lethbridge Cecily went to Garbut Business School and then to work as a private secretary at Northern Electric. Cecily met Clarence in 1952, and on August 20, 1954 they were married in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. Cecily was always patient, courteous, and accommodating but also wasn't hesitant in expressing her mind. She was a loving and loveable person, she was a people's person, and loved more than anything else in engaging conversation with people she knew or happened to meet. She went along with the flow and had no desire to effect change unless change was really needed.
Her strength and vitality echoed in all she did in her life. She was a good wife and mother to her four children. During her younger years she was an excellent swimmer and she swam an Olympic sized pool regularly all summer. She was extremely proud of the fact that in 1988 at age 60 years she completed a life saving course and received a Certificate from the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada. She fought and survived double breast cancer and was never one to give up, quit or face life's challenges without a positive attitude. She was also a prolific reader of good books and magazines and had hundreds of them around the house.
In her later years Cecily did volunteer work at the LSCO in the boutique. She loved that work and meeting the people who patronized the gift shop. She also volunteered many many hours at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, later the Chinook Regional Hospital. She was proud of receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from the hospitals recognizing more than 800 volunteer hours she spent in the surgical wards.
Cecily will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and good friends. She leaves behind her best friend, companion and husband of 57 years, Clarenece George; her daughter Laurie and her husband Craig McClelland of Three Hills, AB; son Robert of Airdre; son Larry and his wife Lisa of Huntington Beach, California; son Tim of Lethbridge; grandchildren Jessica Yanosik, Glen Yanosik, Kyle Yanosik and Lisa (Brett) Salomon of Red Deer, AB; sister in law Florence Klem of Edmonton, AB; brother Barry and sister in law Joy of Vancouver; brother Tom Muir and sister Sharon Muir both of Vancouver, and numerous nieces, nephews from both sides of the families.
Cecily was predeceased by her parents, her sister Roberta Kendal, and her brother in law John. A. Klem, and numerous other paternal and maternal uncles and aunts.
If Cecily were here to say it she would say ""Let us walk the earth with humility, in relationships with love, responsibility and justice, let us always be friendly kind and trusting and loyal.""
At Cecily's request there will be no formal church service, and a private funeral service for family and very close friends will be held on Thursday November 24, 2011 at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 204,2323-32nd Avenue NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 6Z3.
