Vera Wiest

Official Obituary of

7/10/1925 - to - 7/12/2009

MRS. VERA WIEST of Lethbridge, formerly of Enchant, beloved wife of the late Mr. John Wiest, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, December 7, 2009 at the age of 84 years.

She was born Oct 7, 1925, the fifth child of eight, to Pearl and John Oliver in Morse Saskatchewan. She taught school in Saskatchewan for 6 years before coming to Enchant in 1949. There she taught grades four to nine. She also was principal for a time. She retired in 1980 after 37 years. Vera loved those years and was very proud of the time spent working with and instructing all the young students.

Vera married John Wiest December 22, 1951. They lived in the town of Enchant for a few years and eventually moved out to their farm in 1961. Their son Dwaine was born in 1955. He was the light in both of their lives. Vera moved to Lethbridge in 1998, after the loss of John, to a condo and settled in to enjoy the city life. She loved cleaning, shopping, reading the papers and was a very big fan of all sports on TV, making sure that her family stayed on top of who was playing and when. Vera also very much enjoyed her outings and visits with family.

Vera was predeceased by her son, Dwaine in 1970 and her husband, John in 1996. She was also predeceased by several of the Oliver and Wiest family members. She is survived by her brother Lorne (Jean) Oliver of Surrey B.C., sisters in law Marlene Oliver of Viking and Hazel Leigh of Kelowna, BC, and brother in law Bill Coward of Lloydminister, Saskatchewan, along with brothers in law Cecil Wiest of Enchant, Phil (Caroline) Wiest of Monarch, Reg (Martha) Wiest of Lethbridge, Dick (Karen) Wiest of Enchant, Allan Bryant of Lethbridge and sisters in law Dorothy Wiest, Verna Wiest and Maisie Wiest, all of Lethbridge, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the ENCHANT COMMUNITY HALL, Enchant, Alberta, with Pastor Jeff Frostad, officiating.
