Official Obituary of
15/4/1928 - to - 20/3/2025
Jean Wells was born on April 15, 1928, in Calgary and passed away on March 20, 2025, in Edmonton. She lived a full life, with a passion for learning and travel.
Jean authored the book Morning Has Broken, a collection of warm stories inspired by her family’s 120 years in the West.
She spent her early years on a homestead near Wellsville (near Fort Macleod), before moving to Kelliher, Saskatchewan, and later settling in the Vermilion area.
A bright student, Jean graduated from Vermilion High School at the age of 17. She immediately began her teaching career, supervising 14 students across nine grades at Madresfield, south of Blackfoot, where the students worked on correspondence courses. Some of her students were only a few years younger than her.
At 39, Jean returned to school, enrolling in the teacher training program at the University of Lethbridge. She went on to teach in Lethbridge, Beaverlodge, Ryley, and Edmonton before retiring in 1988.
Jean was a devoted mother to her three children, Ian, Neil, and Ann.
In accordance with her wishes, Jean’s cremated remains will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge.
