With deep gratefulness for his life, the family of Gerrit Jan Van Esveld share that he passed away quietly on April 3, 2019 at Good Samaritan’s, Park Meadows Village, Lethbridge at the age of 90.

He leaves behind his wife Gijsbertje (Betty) and six daughters with their families: Jane and Peter Klok, Barb Van Esveld, Rita and Clarence Halma, Grace and Patrick Hickson, Jackie and Bill Oudshoorn and Anita and Henry Oudshoorn.  They were blessed with 34 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.

Gerrit was born August 22, 1928 in Kootwijkerbroek, the Netherlands to Heimen and Janna Van Esveld, the second of seven children.  He and his fiancé Betty immigrated to Canada and were married on May 18, 1954, nearly 65 years ago. They bought their farm in the Nobleford/Monarch area in 1963 and lived there for almost 50 years.

Gerrit is survived by his siblings and in-laws: Gerard Van Esveld, Bill and Gerda Van Esveld, Gerrit and Bep Van Esveld, Reijer Groeneveld, Dirkje Vanden Heuvel, and Willie, Marie, and Hennie van Omme. He was predeceased by Driekus and Hennie Van Esveld, Henk and Jannie Boekhout, Truitje Groeneveld, Weimtje Van Esveld, Gijsbert, Dirk and Gert van Omme, and Aalt Vanden Heuvel, as well as grandson Henry, granddaughter Kaven and great-granddaughter Emersyn.

Gerrit’s family expresses their deep gratefulness to the dedicated staff at Good Samaritan’s, Park Meadows Village.  Your kindness to Dad and Mom during their stay here, especially the past two months, has been deeply appreciated.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm, on Monday April 8, 2019 at BETHEL FREE REFORMED CHURCH OF MONARCH, 6 Eastman Rd, Monarch, AB., Pastor Eric Moerdyk, officiating.
