FEBRUARY 23, 1922 - OCTOBER 20, 2009
It is with much love and great memories that the family of TENA UNGER announce her passing at the age of 87 years. How privileged we were to have her as our Mom and best friend. We will miss her so much. Tena was born in Gruenfeld, Russia on February 23, 1922. She came to Canada with her family in 1926 and settled initially in Weymark, Saskatchewan and then later in Pangman, Saskatchewan, where she spent her childhood. The family moved to Coaldale in 1935 when Tena was thirteen. Here she eventually met Nick Unger and was married after the harvest on November 3, 1940. Nick and Tena farmed north of Coaldale and raised six children there. She loved to garden, and remained on the farm until it became too much to handle, later moving into a condo in Coaldale, and later to the Sunny South Lodge, eventually moving to the Coaldale Health Centre where she lived until her death.
Tena was a special person who touched so many with her kind heart and love of life. She will forever be in the hearts and memories of her family: son, Harold (Alice) Unger of Coaldale, deceased daughter Norma Kathleen Van Ryn, daughter Beverly (Blake Holtman) Unger of Coaldale, daughter Connie (Gordon Pengilly) Zerger of Calgary, daughter Elaine (Doug) Pengilly of Coalhurst and son Allen (Lana) Unger of Coaldale; cherished grandchildren, Darren and Joanne Unger, Lana and Gary Tomasta, Karen and Mark Babick, Michael Morden and Traci Derhak, Cindy and Chris Dewsberry, Jason Van Ryn and Tyna Gaudreault, Nick Pengilly, Skyler Pengilly, and Daly Unger; and great grandchildren, Cole and Jordan Unger, Toni Tomasta, Zack and Reid Morden, Braden and Justin Dewsberry, Michael Van Ryn and Tyona and Anthony Gaudreault. She is also survived by her husband of 69 years, Nick Unger, sister Lena Harder of Coaldale, brother John and Vicki Penner of Debolt, AB, sister-in-law Liz Penner of Coaldale and brother-in-law Abe Neudorf of Lethbridge.
The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her during her life at the Coaldale Health Centre and the many friends who visited her.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on Friday, October 23, 2009 in the church atrium.
A Memorial Service to honor her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the COALDALE MENNONITE CHURCH, 2316 17 Street, Coaldale, Alberta, with Pastor Manfred Boller, Pastor George Klassen, and Pastor Gerald Klassen, officiating.
