MRS. JEAN ELIZABETH THOMPSON of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Carl L. Thompson, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on June 26, 2008 at the age of 90 years.

Jean was born July 21, 1917 the youngest of 5 children of S. J. & Elizabeth Hughson, of Lucky Strike, AB. She was raised on the family farm, attended school at Lucky Strike, Lethbridge and Calgary Normal School. Upon completion of her education, she held several teaching positions in one-room school houses.

Jean married Carl L. Thompson on April 14, 1941. They continued to farm in the Lucky Strike area, later retiring to Foremost, AB and eventually to Lethbridge. They celebrated 59 years of marriage in 2000, prior to Carl's passing.

Jean was active in her community, church and took special interest in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neighbors and their families. Because of her interest in her community she and 3 other ladies produced the history book ""Long Shadows"": a history of Lucky Strike and district. She was often seen by a fishing hole with Carl and their camper.

Jean's last few years were spent at the Edith Cavell Care Centre where she became part of their family. Her family wishes to thank the staff for the excellent and loving care of their mom.

Jean is survived by her children Darlene (Dennis) Carlson, Donald (Jeannine) Thompson; grandchildren Craig Thompson, Geoff Shatz, Monique (Mark) Zan, Keith (Shannon) Thompson, Jodi (Scott) Beauchamp; great-grandchildren Jennifer and Clayton Thompson, Serena Thompson, Owen, Elliot and Christian Zan and sister-in-law Annie Hughson.

Besides her loving husband Carl, Jean was predeceased by her 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M., on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th St. S., Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend Elizabeth Brown, officiating.
