April 30, 1925 ~ November 1, 2008
Thelma passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Society Park Meadows Village at the age of 83 years.
Thelma is survived by her sons Dale Poirier, Calvin (Marika) Poirier; daughter Penny Poirier (Larry Wyrostok); 10 grandchildren Vanessa, Kirby, Tiffany, Sasha, Bobbi, Joseph, Paul, Daniel, Matthew and Michael; her precious great-grandchildren Zackery, Lola and Layne; as well as sister Sue Erickson and nephew Rick Erickson both from Vancouver, BC.
Thelma was born in Fort Quepelle, Saskatchewan and she enlisted in the army in her late teens. After WWII she married Albert Poirier and moved to Fernie, BC where her 3 children were born. She moved to Lethbridge with her children in 1956, finding employment at Eatons. She raised her kids on her own until 1966 when she met and married Walter Davidson. They lived a very active life together until Walts passing in 1981.
To all of Thelma's friends, caregivers or acquaintances, she was known as ""quite a character"" with a very ""feisty"" personality. She will be remembered by all for her wonderful baking and cooking skills. She loved to have family and friends over for meals and entertaining. Friday card night with Gonda, Olive, Helen and Mary was a favorite. Thelma was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion serving with the Ladies Auxiliary, selling poppies and taking treats to Senior's in nursing homes and lodges. During the past few months with her health failing, Nan's happiest times were visits with her little darlings Zackery, Lola and Layne.
Our family would like to thank mom's best friend Ursula, ""adopted son"" Al, Father Richard Zubach, Dr. Mona Cassis, Home Care Staff, and all the wonderful care givers at Good Sam's, especially Michelle, for their care, patience and loving kindness.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Mountain View Cemetery. Following the graveside service the family wishes to invite all Thelma's friends and care givers to a celebration of Thelma's life at Noon at the Good Samaritan Park Meadows Village, 1511 - 15 Ave North, Lethbridge.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, #207, 542 - 7 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2H1.
