Daniel Sullivan

Official Obituary of

7/1/1924 - to - 8/1/2010

MR. DANIEL WILFRED SULLIVAN beloved husband of Violet Sullivan of Lethbridge, formerly from Fort Macleod, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010, at the age of 86 years after succumbing to the battle with Alzheimer's which he fought with courage and acceptance.

Born in a homestead home on January 7, 1924, Wilf was raised and educated in Nemiskam/Foremost. Wilf served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He obtained his Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and Master of Education from the University of Missoula, Montana.
Wilf was an educator for 37 years, where 27 were in the administration role. His journey took him to Masinasin, Claresholm, Granum, and Fort Macleod, where he retired.

Wilf married Violet on June 30, 1958. He will be missed by his loving wife Violet, son Kim (Dianne), son Phil (Shelley), daughter Dawn, daughter Shannon (Hoyt), six grandchildren: DeAndra, Hunter, KiAnna, Mackenzie, Kyle and Louisa.

Wilf was involved in many different activities throughout his life time from scouting, Masons, coaching of basketball, hockey, baseball, track and swim club. When he retired his focus and energies turned to volunteering in the community of Fort Macleod. Many an hour was spent enjoying his yard and cup of tea with a family dog never far from his feet. There were activities for every season: fall was hunting, spring was planting the garden, summer were trips to the Kootenay Lake, Whitefish, Logan Pass and Summer Games swimming, winter was hockey and enjoying the deer in the yard.

Dad has left a legacy within his children and grandchildren by instilling in them his love of nature and the outdoors, his joy of laughter and his quick wit. He will be remembered for his famous roasted chicken dinners, the joy of a hard day's work, perseverance to complete a task, to rally for the underdog and if you believe in a cause to fight for it. Your family loved you in life and we will cherish the memories of our time together. Wilf has touched many lives with a life well lived.

His favourite quote which guided him throughout his life by Charles Dickens, ""It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.""
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the staff of Edith Cavell for their excellent compassionate care to Wilf.
