The Lord in His infinite wisdom has taken from our side, Elisabeth Hendrina (Ellie) our loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister (in-law) and friend at the age of 51 years on December 20, 2019 at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Facility. She passed away at peace after a 9 month battle with cancer.

After 31 years of loving service, she leaves to mourn her husband Willem Slingerland (Wim) and their children Heidi & Piet Heger (Jayden, Justin, Ryan, and Bradley), Caroline, Martina & Abe den Hollander (Jacob), John & Henriët (Eric), William & Janita, Joshua, Elsa and friend Larry Kleinsasser, Nathan, Martin, Louise, Lynette, Ezra, Allen, and Lydia; parents Jan & Corrie Groenendijk; siblings Jannie & Pete Van Waardhuizen, Wim & Brenda Groenendijk, Jos & Judy Groenendijk, Corine & Tim Hunt, Gerard & Henrieke Groenendijk; in-laws Gerie & Bas de Peuter, Jannie & Jaap Stouten, Jacob & Nellie, Aris, Gonnie & Kor Vanden Hoek, Martin & Jeanette, Case & Rose, Adam & Annie, Hank & Arlene, Tony & Lisa, Diane, Judy & Chris den Hertog, Marinus & Wilma; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.

Ellie was predeceased by her parents-in-law Maarten (2012) & Hillegonda (2005); infant sister Theodora (1985); sister-in-law Margaret (2003); brother-in-law John (2016); infant children Pauline (1999) & Rebecca (2003) and infant grandchild Jonathan (2018).

Ellie is the oldest child born to Jan & Corrie Groenendijk on July 21, 1968 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She immigrated to Canada in 1981 with her family. Wim & Ellie were married in 1988 and resided at their farm till her passing.

Ellie was guardian of Roxene and Sandra. She was active in community service, church, school, and mission.

Condolences may be offered from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, on Monday, December 23, 2019, at the NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION, on Howe Road (48-90022 Rge Rd 211), Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, on Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at the NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION, on Howe Road (48-90022 Rge Rd 211), Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend E.C. Adams officiating. An Internment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
