Margaret Shippobotham

Official Obituary of

29/9/1943 - to - 11/9/2016

Margaret Shoppobotham passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the age of 72 years in Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved wife of Robert Shippobotham.

Margaret was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 29, 1943 to Robert and Agnes Deans. She was the youngest of five children. Her schooling included Crookston Castle School and later Wellshot. In 1965, Margaret emigrated to Canada settling in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Later she moved to Brantford, Ontario where she owned her own home and worked at various jobs ending up at General Motors Parts plant in Woodstock, Ontario. After leaving Brantford, Margaret moved to Lethbridge where she lived for a time with her brother Abe and his wife Cathie. When Abe returned to Scotland, Margaret moved to Magrath to stay with friends. It was there she met Robert and thus began their journey together. In June 1986 she received her Canadian citizenship.

Margaret worked at Holiday Inn Hotel until 1987 when she left to become the head housekeeper of the new Motel Magic, which later became Days Inn. She retired in 2009.

Her interests included crochet, knitting, some travel, classic rock and roll, good movies, Outlander, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Johnny Reid and cooking.

Besides her husband Robert, Margaret is survived by her step-daughter Bobbie Fox (Don) of Lethbridge; 2 Grandsons Michael and Brandon Fox; her brother Tomas of Glasgow, Scotland; her nieces Karen O’Neil (Stuart) and Kirsty Deans (John Lynch); along with other grand-nieces also in Glasgow.

Margaret is predeceased by her father Robert and her mother Agnes; her brother Abraham (Cathie); and her sisters Mima Smith (Peter) and Sybil.
