Ann Belle Service
Official Obituary of
31/12/1931 - to - 15/12/2020
Ann Belle Service (nee Illerbrun) passed away peacefully at Legacy Lodge from kidney failure at the age of 88 years on December 15, 2020. Annabelle as she liked to be called was born Premature 1 lb. 8 oz. She was a miracle baby that survived on December 31, 1931 just 6 minutes before midnight in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She chose her moment to depart this life on the eve of the Great Conjunction, the passing of Jupiter and Saturn. The evening sky was well lit for her passage to the next life and her new adventures begin.
Her and 5 siblings wreaked havoc on the family homestead near Gull Lake Sask and in 1946 the family moved to Lethbridge. She was a Historian. Keeping many articles, documents, school awards and photographs. She was a single mother who raised five kids and our home was always a gathering place for all of our family and friends. She taught us to care and believe in ourselves, tough love and hard work were good lessons to learn. Mom left us with a strong work ethic and we have many precious keepsakes to remind us of her, as do all the fortunate people of Lethbridge who shared in her treasures at garage sales.
Annabelle enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, gardening and had a great love for animals. She was a true character, outrageous and genuine. She sugar coated nothing and used colourful language when needed, you always knew exactly where you stood.
She will be greatly missed by her children Beverly (Rick), Douglas, Randy (Lisa), Dwayne (Pamela) and Stacy (James); Grandchildren Stephanie (Chad), Jeanine (James), Adam (Emily), Chelsey (Alex), Devany (Graham), Tyson (Ariel), Chase, Savanna (Derek) and Jordon; Great-grandchildren Alegria, Aurelia, Adalina, Zachary, Elissa, Lily, Indi and Meadow and Sister Barbara Dietzen.
She was predeceased by her parents Alphonse and Julia Illerbrun; siblings Bill, Stella, Allan, Roger and foster sister Maxine; Nerd the Bird and many family pets. We are thankful for the staff at Legacy Lodge for the wonderful care of our mother. Please consider a donation to the Humane Society of Lethbridge or the Salvation Army.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring when the entire family and friends who often gathered for cards game around the kitchen table can come and exchange memories, family adventures and survival fishing trips. Please share any stories or life skills that you learned along the way with us on our memorial page. Until we meet again....
