Official Obituary of

1/5/1922 - to - 2/2/2011

Mary Ann Schmidt passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell on Wednesday February 2, 2011 at the age of 88. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph in 1990.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Morgan) Munroe and their children Dennis (Melinda), Nicholas, Michael, Trent, Amanda Kada (Carson), Terry (Andy) Kovacs and their sons Jonathan, Scott and James, Joanne (Lee) Salmon and their children Greg (Kylee) and Dana (Nic) Stanton, Cindy (Brian) Pickering and their children Sara and Curtis, Rob (Angela) and their children Nicole and Adam and Alan (Deb) and their daughter Kiara. Also survived by three great grandchildren Emily and Sam Munroe and Aurora Eakett, one brother Steve (Roma) Roth, one sister Theresa Allen, sisters in law Barbara Roth, Millie Roth and Helen Schmidt and nieces and nephews.

Mary was also predeceased her parents; Stephen and Barbara Roth; siblings Margaret Hurt, Fran Cornwell, Tom Roth and Jim Roth, all of Joseph's brothers and sisters.

Born in Grassy Lake on May 1 1922 and raised in southern Alberta, Mary served overseas in the Armed Forces at the end of World War II. In 1950 she married Joe, they lived in several locations before settling in Lethbridge in 1965.

She was a strong courageous lady that didn't give up in the 20 year battle with Parkinson's disease. Mary continued to enjoy her gardening, her crafts, reading and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Never one to complain or be a burden she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered.
Special thanks to the caring staff on London Lane at Edith Cavell Care Centre for care of our Mom, they truly made it her home.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00PM, on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, led by Deacon Michael Pollard.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM, on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at the ST. MARTHA'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father Terrance Connolly, assisted by Deacon Michael Pollard. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
