Mary Scheibner

Official Obituary of

2/4/1929 - to - 14/5/2016

Mary Scheibner passed away peacefully in Coaldale on May 14, 2016 at the age of 87 years. She and her husband Len moved there in 1951, where they raised their children and hosted a multitude of family feasts for the family which grew larger and larger and cherished the precious moments spent with Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great-Great Grandma, Auntie and Friend.

Mary was born in Spring Water, Saskatchewan to John and Maria Redekopp who had emigrated from Russia. Most of her growing up was in Gem, Alberta where she met Leonard whom she married in November of 1947. They moved to Fort Macleod and then to Coaldale. After 62 years in Coaldale, they needed some supportive living where Mom resided for close to three years. She was lucky enough to return to Coaldale for one last time before passing on to her “forever” home. Staff at the Coaldale Health Centre was extraordinary in their efforts to provide a peaceful and comfortable environment for Mary and her extended family.

Mary was a career nurturer. She nurtured the love of her life, Len, all of her offspring and their extended families. She nurtured friends and strangers alike. She was actively involved in church and community life. Mary was very active in the Coaldale United Church serving in the UCW group, singing in the choir, serving on the Board of Elders, and ministering in many other ways. Later they became affiliated with the Salvation Army in Lethbridge where she served as greeter for around 25 years. She was a long-time member of the Pythian Sisters as well as a member and leader in the Christian Women’s Group. After reaching that certain age, Mary became very involved in the Coaldale Seniors Group. Since Len was an amateur radio operator she became an active participant in all their Ham Radio Clubs.

Mary is survived by her large extended family consisting of her son Larry (Virgen Napoles Alarcon), son-in-law Barry Morcom (Alma Lynn), daughters Diane Scheibner (Bill King), Debbie Middleton (Mark Giffin), Bonnie Hart (Patrick). She has been blessed with many grandchildren: Terry (Sandy), Heather, Avi, Amber (Jared), Arren (Buck), Brandon (Kim), Bryan (Cayla), Raulito (Yunia), Sarah (Christiaan), Brenda (Aaron) and great grandchildren: Rayna-Lynn, Kenzie-Dean, Kourtney, Owen, Maryssa, Emry, Calum, Armin, Gilbert, Lily-Anne, Katerina-Maria, Sebastiaan, Christine, Willem, Isabella, Oliver and great great grandchildren: Kyler-Dean and Grason. Mary is also survived by her sisters-in-law Doris and Betty Scheibner and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband Leonard, her parents John and Maria Redekopp, her brothers, Abe, John, Jake, and George, her sisters Helen and Aggie and her daughter Norma.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 1515 – 100 St. SE Calgary, Alberta with Pastor Wayne Lewry officiating. Interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central United Church, 131 7 Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta T2P 0W5 to support their ministries.
