CHARLES “GLEN” ROURKE

1938 ~ 2018

Mr. Charles “Glen” Rourke of Picture Butte, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Anita Rourke, passed away at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the age of 79 years.

Glen was born on April 3, 1938 in Midland Ontario. He was the son of a lighthouse keeper and lived on an island up the lakes in Georgian Bay with his three brothers and two sisters. All through his school years he drove a water taxi for his Uncle out of Honey Harbor. After school he joined the Canadian Coast Guard as a Marine Engineer and during that time he met the love of his life, Anita Harrison. After a short six-month courtship, he proposed, and they were married on September 25, 1965. In April 1968, Heather was born and in September of 1970, Stephen was born. In 1980, they began a new chapter by moving from Midland, Ontario to Hay River, Northwest Territories. When Heather, Don and the kids moved to Picture Butte in 2004, Glen and Anita followed six months later, making Picture Butte their home in 2005. Glen was active in the Coyote Flats Tractor Club, was the Grand Knight for the Picture Butte Knights of Columbus and he loved cheering on his Winnipeg Jets. Next to his wife Anita, Glen's greatest joy was spoiling his five Grandchildren; Nicole, Derian, Shelbie, Heath and Kiarra.

Glen leaves behind his daughter, Heather (Don) Desautels, of Picture Butte, and their children, Nicole, Derian and Shelbie. He also leaves behind is son, Stephen (Sandra) Rourke, of Edmonton, and their children, Heath and Kiarra.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at ST. CATHERINE’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 762 Crescent Ave., N., Picture Butte, Alberta.

Cremation entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.
