David Robb
Official Obituary of
9/6/1966 - to - 19/2/2022
On July 9th, 1966, David Robb was born in Equising, Ontario. David's life in Lethbridge began two years later when his courageous mother moved her young family to Lethbridge to start a new life. The Robb family consisted of Mom Eva, Sisters Debbie and Cathy, and brother Peter. Eva's faith and religion guided the family as they grew.
David lived his entire life in his community of choice: Lethbridge. He was passionate about the beauty of this community and the opportunity it could provide for everyone. His experiences at Saint Patrick's, Saint Mary's, Saint Francis, CCH, and the University of Lethbridge helped create the man we all knew as Dave.
Centered on the simple pleasures, Dave was eternally focussed on expanding his mind, challenging himself and all of those who knew him to expand their horizons and learn new things. I do believe he has the record for the longest sitting at one time, watching CSPAN. His connection to nature restored his soul as he visited his favourite haunts of Castle Mountain and the coulees. He was often with a camera to share the beauty of what he saw through his photographs. We can never forget his lifelong love of croquet and his new love for yoga, as he focussed on new ways to find meaning in his life. He was passionate about many things: but what I remember most are his fascinations with politics, debate and always being right. He was known for his clever and quick witted comments and he was never afraid to let you know when you were on the wrong side with one of those infamously famous, David Robb raised eyebrows.
He passed on his lifelong love of learning and knowledge to the greatest love in life, his daughter Victoria. David found his calling as a Dad and Victoria was a never ending source of pride. His one regret was not getting to see Victoria in her new home. He was conspiring with all of us to try and find a way to make that happen.
David had many accomplishments in life but also many struggles. Many will think his battle with Cancer was his strongest act of Courage. For those who knew him, his most courageous act was fighting every day the depression that wanted to overtake him and his love of life, friends, and family. In the end, he fought both with a vehemence that reflected his unique character and heart and commitment to finding a new way.
David's motto in life was guided by the first book he gave his daughter: The Tao of Pooh. It teaches that we must all take a moment to enjoy life… and not rush to get to the ending.
David lived his life that way and while some days it could be frustrating, he never wavered from that belief.
Today we can look back and appreciate that just a little bit more. That is the legacy Dave will leave to all of those who knew him. He would encourage us all today to enjoy life; everyday is beautiful. Don't rush to the ending, it will come too quickly.
David's life began with the unwavering support of his mother Eva and it ended the same way.
Let's all pledge to keep Dave alive through the stories we tell, and the laughter, and tears that those stories will bring.
