Nick Renyk
Official Obituary of
12/7/1917 - to - 10/2/2009
NICHOLAS ""NICK"" RENYK of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Elda Renyk, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the age of 91 years.
Nick was born in Rhein, Saskatchewan on July 12, 1917. He started life on the family farm, but due to drought and misfortune, he moved many times with his family. The family settled in Bellevue where his dad and brothers found work in the coal mines. Nick later joined them as a young and brash sixteen year old. He remained in Bellevue until he joined the Canadian Armed Forces.
Nick married his beloved Elda while on leave in 1943. After the war, Nick returned to the mines. When the Adanac Mine shut down, he moved to Vauxhall with Elda and his three sons, Robert, William and Garth. He worked in the Corona Hotel and later with the PFRA. Vauxhall was a happy place for Nick and Elda. They made many friends and enjoyed good times.
When the PFRA closed late in Nick's career, he and Elda moved to Saskatoon and then later retired to Lethbridge. Wherever they went, they truly enjoyed being with family, friends and being involved in their church. They loved to play cards and visit. In later years they looked forward to going to morning Mass and staying for coffee at St. Martha's Parish or going to the weekly Rosary sessions.
Nick loved sports and was an avid golfer, curler and fisherman until he lost his eyesight. His greatest love was his family. He treasured his time with his sons and their families and was especially delighted when he could be with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was truly a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be fondly remembered as a kind, humble ""gentle man"".
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Therese Villa for the care provided during his illness.
Nick is survived by his sons Bill (Gay) Renyk and Garth (Paolina) Renyk; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Renyk; grandchildren Penny Renyk, Lance Renyk, Linsey Renyk, Dawn (Phil) Buonomo, Clark (Syndi) Marcolin, Deanna Renyk, Robert Marcolin, Grahame Renyk, Christopher Renyk, Jane Renyk and numerous treasured great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister Irene (Chad) Radway; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides his loving wife Elda, Nick was predeceased by his son Robert Renyk; brothers Bill, Jack, Pete and John and sisters Mary and Sophie.
