Carl Renner

Official Obituary of

30/4/1920 - to - 12/3/2012

CARL W. RENNER passed away at St. Michael's Palliative Care Centre on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the age of 91 years. The second youngest of nine children born to Josephine and Joseph Renner, Carl was born on April 30, 1920 in Diamond City. He was raised on the family's homestead (built in 1907) in the Keho Lake district, and educated at Keho School. Carl was conscripted into the Army in 1942, was trained in Northern B. C., and served overseas in Holland, Belgium, and England. As a veteran, Carl was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Nobleford and in Lethbridge. After the war he returned to the family farm and worked with his brothers until 1997, when the four remaining siblings moved to Lethbridge to enjoy the quiet peacefulness of the Henderson Lake area after so many years of farming. One of Carl's favorite pastimes was being involved in music, and one of his many talents was playing the saxophone. He and his brother Albert, along with Ted Ronney, formed an orchestra called The Rhythm Tones in 1935 and sister Elsie joined them in 1941. Playing at dances, weddings, New Year's Eve parties, etc. until they retired the group in 1968, they were well-known in the Southern Alberta area and played as far north as Brent, Alberta. Another favorite pastime was traveling. For many years, Carl and brother Albert traveled to Hawaii during the winter months, oftentimes meeting friends and family there. He also enjoyed taking in the Kimberley Music Fests, and going on day jaunts with family to Waterton and other mountain areas. Carl was also a part of the ""coffee clatch"" group of good friends who met weekly to visit and he enjoyed dining out whenever the notion struck.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Herman, Rudolph, Ernest, Frank, Albert, sisters Barbara Renner and Rose Todd, sister-in-law Mary Renner, and brother-in-law George Todd. He is survived by his sister Elsie Renner, numerous nieces and nephews and their families, and other extended family.
