Betty Reimer
Official Obituary of
5/4/1935 - to - 21/9/2011
Betty (Bergatha Areshenko) Reimer of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Dick (Deidrich) Reimer fought many courageous battles yet passed away too soon on Wednesday September 21 at the age of 76 years.
Betty was born on April 5, 1935 in rural Saskatchewan and vividly remembers her exciting move from the country to Lethbridge. On August 20, 1955, Betty married Dick and they dedicated their lives to raising their three children, Carol, Richard, and Natalie. Betty worked at the University of Lethbridge in the Faculty of Education for the next 19 years, developing lifelong friendships with faculty, staff and students. A horrific car accident that eventually resulted in paraplegia changed her life forever. Never to complain, she overcame her many daily challenges with strength and dignity. She remained in constant contact with her extended family and friends, and enjoyed travelling despite her disability. Betty was one of the founding directors of the Lethbridge Twinning Society and remained active with the organization until her passing. Betty considers her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to be her legacy -- her greatest inspiration and joy.
Besides her loving husband, Dick, Betty is survived by her dedicated children, Carol Ariza of Gardena CA, Richard Reimer (Glory) of Stirling AB, and Natalie Shaby (David) of Manhattan Beach CA; her adoring grandchildren Erin Pearson (Evan), Ashley Clark, Holly Jungers (Matt), Mark Micklich, Kevin Reimer (Ashley), Mandy Reimer (Sheldon), Kelsie Reimer, Mason Reimer, Kayley Reimer, Tanya Shaby, and David Shaby; her sweet great-grandchildren, Jessie Peters, Maddison Jungers, Taiya Fries, Amelia Reimer, and Audrey Reimer; her brother, Raymond Areshenko of Sacramento CA and sister, Kayla Bandel of Great Falls CA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Betty was predeceased by her parents Theresa Hiebert Areshenko and William Areshenko, and her sister Patsy (Gladys) Park.
Family and friends are invited to join the Celebration of Betty's Life at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 28th, 2011at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Lethbridge Twinning Society, 128 Riverwood Manor West, Lethbridge AB T1K 7X4.
