Mr. Harold Irving Reid of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Laura Reid, passed away at the age of 74 years, at home on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at peace doing what he loved.
Born on July 20, 1947 in Melfort Sk. To Marian and Irving Reid. He was the oldest of 8 children. Harold grew up in a little 5 room farmhouse with a basement on the Co-op farm in Meskanaw Sk. He went to Galabank elementary school and graduated from Kinistino High in 1965.
Harold grew up farming and loved being on a tractor in the hot Sk. sun.
He attended the University of Saskatchewan and worked at Dowey Construction as a power lineman to pay for school.
While in University he went on a blind date, and it turned out that woman was the love of his life. Laura was 17 and he was 21. She knew from the first date he was the one for her, and everyone that saw them on their first date thought they had been sweethearts forever!
After school he continued to work for Dowey all over the province of Saskatchewan. After Dowey he drove a green pea combine for Fraser Valley foods for a season. He never did like peas after that.
From there he went hard rock mining for Nickel in Thompson Manitoba.
Harold and Laura were Engaged Saturday July 31, 1971. Then they got married November 20, 1971. They stayed best friends and happily married for 50 years.
They started out married life in Thompson Manitoba. Their first daughter, Tanie was born October 23rd, 1972.
They then moved to Calgary where he worked as a steel worker for J.K. Campbell and that is where they welcomed their second daughter, Lancea, September 6, 1976 to round out his little family.
July 1, 1977, they started broiler breeder farming in Sardis B.C. After farming there for 10 years. Then they moved to Magrath Alberta in June 1987 to a broiler farm. August 1st, 1987, the farm burned down, and they needed to search for a new location.
On September 24th, 1987, they broke ground for their final farm near Diamond City, Ab. which they quickly built and moved onto November 16th, 1987. It was there they continued building a successful broiler poultry farm where they farmed for the next 35 years. In addition to farming, Harold honed his skills as a master heavy duty diesel mechanic working on farm equipment all over Southern Alberta.
He volunteered on the board of his church for a term and was a member of the Lions club for a while.
