George Quincey
Official Obituary of
8/6/1936 - to - 5/3/2022
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day…” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
It is with sadness, but peace and joy in our hearts, that we said goodbye to our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend George Edwin Quincey.
George lost his lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Saturday March 5, surrounded by his family, singing hymns, joyfully awaiting the moment when he could finally see his Jesus face-to-face.
George is survived by his wife Grace; eight children: Wendell (Maureen), Joanne (Leonard), Jacob, Dianne (Tim), Renee (Brian), John (Connie), Elly (William), Michelle (Shaun); 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents Atherton and Annie; wife Jeanette, brother Charles, and nephew Timothy.
George was born on June 8, 1936 in Montreal Quebec. After WW2, his mother moved George and his brother Chuck to the family homestead near Glenside, Saskatchewan. There he completed school, played baseball, football, curled, hunted, fished, making lifelong friends along the way. He married Jeanette Zlatnik (1937-1997) in June 1957. He earned his journeyman in carpentry, working on the formidable Gardner dam project and managing a lumber yard in nearby Outlook, SK. In 1969, George moved his young family to Fernie, British Columbia. There he worked for a coal mining company, supervising numerous construction projects. During those years, he continued farming in Saskatchewan, commuting annually to Glenside for seeding and harvest.
Fernie was the place of a more significant change. There he encountered his Saviour Jesus Christ. Due to his faith, he influenced others to also believe and provided an example of a spiritual life.
George met and married Grace (May 1999) and a new chapter of his life unfolded, relocating to Lethbridge, Alberta where he loved and was loved by his family, spending many hours with children and grandchildren, celebrating with them and serving them with his hands and heart. George also enjoyed working side by side with his son, Wendell on numerous endeavour’s, creating memories. He was always excited to hear and see the projects Wendell was working on.
