Mrs. Hazel Fern Paulsen of Warner, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Mr. Norman Paulsen, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Monday, June 26, 2017 at the age of 95 years.
Hazel was born on the family farm east of New Dayton on October 3, 1921, daughter of Tom and Fern Adams. Hazel spent her growing up years on the farm and attended Independent School.
On November 21, 1939 Hazel married Norman “Swede” Paulsen and together they raised their family of 5 daughters and 1 son on their farm.
Mom loved the simple pleasures in life and family was “TOP” priority. Mom enjoyed reading, crafts, ceramics, sewing and gardening, especially her flower gardens. Attending or watching rodeo, particularly the Bull Riding was another favorite past time of Mom’s.
After farming for over 30 years, Mom and Dad moved into Warner in the fall of 1982. They became enthusiastic golfers spending many weekends on the Raymond Golf Course. Trips to Hawaii, England, Norway, Europe, Columbus, Florida and other southern US States were some of Mom’s treasured memories.
Hazel is survived by her daughters Melva (Gene) Pytel of Heber City, Utah, Judy Brantner of Wrentham, Val Lagler of Warner, Wendy (Ken) Elliott of Coaldale, Betty Jo Thomas of Warner; son Bill (Kari) Paulsen of Raymond; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister Lois (George) Lastuka of Lethbridge; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides her loving husband Norman, Hazel was predeceased by her parents Tom and Fern Adams; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; 4 grandchildren; as well as 3 son-in-laws Jerry Brantner, Barry Thomas and Morris Lagler.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 12:00pm and 1:00pm, on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street S., Lethbridge, Alberta.
A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will follow at 1:00pm on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, with a private family interment taking place in the Warner Cemetery, with Pastor Rodger Halvorsen officiating.
