Georgia Morris

Official Obituary of

29/10/1934 - to - 17/5/2025

It is with profound sadness that the family of Georgia Morris (nee Tallon) announce her passing at Edith Cavell Care Centre in Lethbridge on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the age of 90.

She is survived by her two sons: Kevin (Sheri) and their daughter Talyn of Shaughnessy and Brent (Francesca) and their children Zachary and Alexa of Lethbridge.

Georgia was born in Edmonton on October 29, 1934, the second of four children to George and Margaret Tallon. Her Dad was in the RCMP, so they lived in different places in Southern Alberta. Her favorite place of all, was Waterton, which she visited every chance she got. After graduating from high school in Rossland, BC in 1952, she took schoolteacher training at Normal School in Vancouver. Within a few years of graduating, she made her way to Lethbridge to teach school. She had many wonderful memories of teaching school and developed many lifelong friendships that she cherished until the very end.

In July 1960 Georgia married the love of her life, Don Morris, whom she met on a blind date in 1958. After briefly living in Lethbridge, they moved to Shaughnessy where they started a successful farm fuel business. They worked side by side for many years at Eldorado Petroleum Service which is still in operation today and owned by her son, Kevin. After substitute teaching a bit throughout the years, she stopped teaching full time to help in their business, but mostly to raise her sons. She was also a supportive wife and mother when Don and Brent started Gas King Oil Co Ltd in 1985.

In 1992 Georgia became a widow after Don’s passing from brain Cancer at the age of 62. Our Mom was a dedicated wife who was by his side throughout his treatments and until the very end. Finding herself a widow at only 58 years old she traveled extensively with family and friends.

In January 1999 our mom married Howard Haney who she knew from attending the United Church in Iron Springs and Picture Butte. Mom had always wanted a large family and was thrilled that Howard had five kids. She and Howard loved having their families together at their home, especially at Christmas time where opening Santa Sacks and singalongs were enjoyed by all.

Howard and our mom enjoyed their years together and traveled a lot with family and friends, spending many winters together at Georgia’s home near Palm Springs. Howard passed away in July 2019 at the age of 89.

Our Mom loved Howard’s family like her own and is survived by his children; Chris (Cindy), Susan (Loren), Ted (Lori), Sally (Bruce) and Eddie (Melissa). She had a very special bond with Howard’s grandchildren; Curtis, Carly-Ann, Alex, Gillian, Meghan, Douglas, Joelle, Kesinee, Elizabeth, Aiden, Sydney and Lesley and their spouses. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren; Ellie, Iris, Ivalee, Thatcher, Boston, Ella and Theo.

Our Mom loved being a grandma to Zachary, Talyn and Alexa. Any chance she got she attended their sporting activities, dance recitals and whatever else they were involved in. She was very interested in their lives and babysat them often, playing on the floor with them, building snowmen and playing dress up. We always wondered who was having more fun!

Our Mom was always active but especially in retirement. She swam for many years, walked daily and went to the gym in her 70’s. She curled in Picture Butte and golfed while in her 80s. She loved to socialize and meet new people. Our mom attended many dances with our dad, and then Howard in later life. She was involved in the United Church in Picture Butte and for many years drove there every Sunday to attend. Her kids often said that she had a better social life than they did.

In July 2020 she sold her home and moved into The View in Lethbridge. She really enjoyed her time there and loved socializing with the other residents who soon became her friends.

Our Mom is also survived by her sister Mary Ell and her husband Rodney of Whitecourt; she had a special place in her heart for her sister Shirley’s children; Edith, Drew (deceased), Ian, Elaine, Joan and Carol and Mary’s children; Mark and Jeri and their spouses. She was very close to both our dad’s and Howard’s brothers and sisters. Mom also had great relationships with her many nephews and nieces on both the Morris and Haney sides of the family.

Mom was also predeceased by her parents George and Margaret Tallon, her sisters Shirley (Dick) Wallace and Barbara Riverside.

In lieu of flowers, and if you desire, donations will be graciously accepted by Trinity United Church at PO Box 957, Picture Butte, AB T0K 1V0.

A Memorial Service will be held for Georgia at 11:00AM, FRIDAY MAY 30, 2025, AT THE MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 15 AVENUE SOUTH, LETHBRIDGE, Alberta, with Reverend Glenda Wert officiating.
