MRS. OLIVE McGEORGE of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Donald Victor McGeorge, and mother of Duncan Stewart McGeorge, passed away at the St. Michael's Palliative Care Centre on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the age of 85 years.

Olive was born in Burnley, Lancashire, England on January 16, 1924, spending her teens during World War II and later cycling through much of England and Wales. She participated in amateur theatre along with her future husband, Donald, taking roles in plays such as ""Night Must Fall"" and ""A Quiet Wedding"". She married the love of her life at St. Catherine's Church in Burnley on September 24, 1949.

In 1953, the family emigrated from England to Edmonton, Alberta, where Olive worked for a then-new Sun Publishing Co. and later for the Queen's Printer of the Alberta Government. Olive and Don escaped the Edmonton winters by enjoying many Caribbean cruises and vacations in Hawaii. They retired to Sydney, BC in 1982, living there until Don's death in 1989. Olive was an avid knitter for her family and friends and crocheted many afghans for them and for charity. She valued time with her family even though she missed her much-loved sea-side.

Olive is survived by her only son, Duncan Stewart McGeorge (Marla Jean) of Lethbridge, and her grandchildren Paige Elizabeth McGeorge and Claire Amanda McGeorge, her brother-in-law William Neil McGeorge and her only niece Susan Austen (Kevan) of Calgary.

Besides her beloved Donnie, Olive was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Lilian Smith, and her only sister, Vera McGeorge.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at MARTIN BROS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, with Canon James Robinson, officiating.

Inurnment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
