ALLAN ROBERT ""AL"" MCFADDEN of Surrey, BC, beloved husband of the late Marjorie Lenore ""Lennie"" McFadden, passed away in Surrey, British Columbia on July 29, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Born in Fort Macleod December 11, 1918, he lived with his parents Archie and Louise McFadden in Fort Macleod, Lethbridge, Lacombe and Bluffton Alberta until 1938, at which time he came to Lethbridge to work at the Research Station. In 1940 he joined the RCAF and served overseas as a fighter pilot. In April of 1942, he crashed in French West Africa and was interned in Timbucto until December of 1942. Upon release from internment he returned to the UK and flew Spitfires with 416 Squadron through ""D"" day and late 1944. He then returned to Canada and married Marjorie Lenore Wilson. They resided in Edmonton and Saskatoon while Allan attended university where he obtained his BSA in agriculture. They came to Lethbridge in 1949 where Allan was employed at the Canada Agriculture Research Station. In 1951 he joined Oliver Chemical Company of Lethbridge and remained with them until retirement in 1976. They then moved to Wasa, BC until 1984, at which time they retuned to Lethbridge.
Predeceased by his parents Archibald and Louise McFadden, his loving wife Lennie in January 2005, sisters Margaret (Lin) Bolton, Mattie (Mac) McCullough, brothers Don (Helen) and Hugh (Ethel) McFadden, he is survived by his son Murray (Judy) McFadden and daughter Brenda (Dona) Nolet and grandchildren Patrick McFadden, Jesse and Rita Nolet.
Allan spent most of his working life in the irrigation business in southern Alberta. He was a member of the Canadian Society of Agricultural Engineers, the Alberta Institute of Agrologists, and a life member of the Canadian Fighter Pilots Association. He was active in the community with the Lethbridge Amateur Swim Club, a life member of the Lethbridge Gyro club and the Lethbridge Senior Curling Club, serving on the executive of all of them. He also did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels and the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
A memorial service for both Lennie and Al will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at MARTIN BROS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity or organization of one's choice.
