Beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2007 with her family by her side.
Lucille was born October 4, 1921 in Bow Island to parents Walter and Marion Wallwork.
She was often seen riding to school aboard her favorite horse ""Jimmy-Roany"". Her favorite sport was baseball and in High School she pitched her fastball team to the Provincial Championship. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Medicine Hat School of Nursing in 1945, and began her chosen career at the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge. In 1947 she married Jack McDonald, and in 1949 gave birth to her daughter Ann Marie. She moved to the new Lethbridge Municipal Hospital, and was the Emergency Unit Supervisor until it's closing. Retiring, she spent her time traveling and camping with her husband, his dog ""Guy"", and their many friends.
Lucille was very active in the community, and volunteered her time with Order of the Royal Purple, Southminster United Church, Ladies of the Old Timers Pemmican Club, Ladies Auxiliary to the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, Norbridge Seniors Centre, and the Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, Walter and Marion Wallwork and her husband Jack McDonald. She is survived by her daughter Ann Marie, her son-in-law Steven Dobay, her grandson Michael Dobay, her brother James Wallwork, her sister Dorothy (Bob) Weir, and her beloved dog, Missy.
She will always be remembered for her intelligence, her keen sense of humor, her passion for nursing, her love of animals, her gentleness, her smile, and her love of hats.
A graveside service will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 8, 2007 at Mountain View Cemetery, with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. A reception and celebration of her life will follow at Southminster Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Alumnae Association School of Nursing, Medicine Hat General Hospital, c/o Margery Ensminger, 340-14 St N.E., Medicine Hat, AB. T1A 5V8; or to the charity of your choice.
