John McCallum

Official Obituary of

14/6/1927 - to - 9/5/2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, husband, papa and friend, John McCallum of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Sharon McCallum, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the age of 93 years.

John was born in Dalry, Scotland on June 14, 1927 son of William and Mary McCallum. Brothers to 11 siblings. John had a huge passion for soccer and obtained his certification to coach. He served in the British Military for 14 years as a paratrooper, he stood guard for the Queen Mother as part of his military service and he also took part in the very first British Military tattoo at Edinburgh Castle in 1949. John married Margaret McRae in 1947 in Scotland and together they immigrated to Canada in 1967 where they continued to raise their family in Burnaby, British Columbia. Together they had 4 children Jim (Susan) McCallum, Steve (Carina) McCallum, Ron McCallum and Carolynn McCallum; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. Mom stayed home to raise the children while Dad worked at Freightliner Trucks in management for 14 years.

John’s passion for fishing began as a small child in Scotland that continued throughout his life, especially at Heffley Lake in Kamloops, BC. All of his children would spend countless hours there with him on the boat, fishing, laughing and making up fishing stories. Dad taught us so many life lessons on the boat.

John was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He moved to Saskatchewan in 1996 with his daughter’s family, where he met his second wife Sharon. They married in 1999 and enjoyed 22 years of marriage, sharing unconditional love for one another. In 2000 they followed Sharon’s passion for creativity and John’s love of sales to begin their business venture together as Circle H Embroidery, they continued running this business along side one another, until moving to Lethbridge in 2006. Together they enjoyed each others extended families.

John’s family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to our father’s step-son Curtis Hayward who was there for dad in too many ways to mention, until his very last day.

ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS DAD, LEAVE SOME FISH FOR US!
