JOSEPH M. MANDEL departed this mortal life peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and 3 children on Wednesday, May 30, 2007.
Besides his loving wife Marion Sherri of 48 years, Joseph is survived by his son Cameron (Carla) children Brandon (partner Kathy currently servicing with Canadian Forces in Afghanistan), Conner, Ashley, Dallin, Megan, Jenna; son Dr. Roger (Val); daddies girl Shelley (Pat) Schroh children Spencer, Kaden, Zane and Mylan; brothers and sisters Annie, Mike, Peter, Paul, John, Sara, Elizabeth, George and Lawrence as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Kate, Susie, Rebecca, Joe, Jacob, and Mary.
Our father was born on April 16, 1936 at the Elm Spring Colony to Michael & Sara Mandel. In 1955 dad left Warner to work for George Cutforth on a farm north of Lethbridge. He met our mother Sherri while they were both working on the Cutforth farm in early 1959 and they were married October 15, 1959 in Lethbridge. In the fall of 1961 mom and dad moved back to Warner to work on the Fletcher farm. In the fall of 1967 mom and dad moved to their home in Warner and dad start farming on his own on the Graham farm just north of Warner. For the next 25 years dad always had 1 or more jobs in addition to the farm. For many years dad ran the pure bread cow calf operation for Ralph Millhaem and dads own herd are descendants of some of the championship Angus cows dad raised on the deep Ridge Angus Ranch. Our father was born on the land and for 47 years our father worked the land within eyesight of his place of birth. The crop planted last month is the 40th crop to be grown on this land by our father. Dad loved the land but especially his livestock. Cattle, horses, fowl and fish were always part of his life. His passion and greatest joys however were his grandchildren and since 1985 hardly a week went by where at least 1 and sometimes up to 8 were with him in his truck or tractor. He served his community for 9 years on town council, as a volunteer fireman for as many years as we can remember as well as the Warner Flying Club and Warner Curling Club. The community of Warner could always count on dad when work needed to be done. To all that knew him dad leaves a legacy that can be summed up by one word WORK.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at the WARNER ARENA, Warner, AB, with Pastor Brian Magee, officiating.
In lieu of flowers please contribute in Dad's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 234C - 12B Street North, Lethbridge, AB T1H 2K7, an affliction affecting our family.
