Shannon Leigh Lastuka

Official Obituary of

14/4/1965 - to - 26/7/2025

Shannon Leigh LASTUKA (Hoglund), age 60, of Lethbridge Alberta, passed away on July 26, 2025 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Shannon was soulmate and wife to Bernie; a loving mother to Ethan Lastuka (Tara) and Codie Swazey (Cole); cherished daughter to Garry and Vellrie Hoglund, and a beloved sister and best friend to Shelley Hoglund.

She was a proud and loved Gramma to Bennett, Jackson, Bronwyn and Rylie.

Shannon was the best Auntie to McCauley Brown (Madison), Tess Wigemyr (Denton), Beth Pelkey, Kassie and Jacey Lastuka, and Great Auntie to Layken, Booker and Malia Brown, as well as Wylder and Maverick Wigemyr. She was also a sister in law to Dennis Lastuka. She was best friends and partner in crime to Bev Baczuk.

Shannon was born April 14, 1965 in Calgary and the family soon moved to Fort Macleod where she attended school, graduating high school in 1983. She then moved to Lethbridge to attend Lethbridge Community College, graduated with a diploma in secretarial studies, and promptly entered the workforce.

She met Bernie in 1985 and they were married March 4, 1989. Her son Ethan was born June 7 1990, and Shannon decided to dedicate her time to raising her small and growing family. Daughter Codie arrived on March 14, 1994 and Shannon relished her life with her husband and children on the family farm.

After the kids started school Shannon decided to continue her career and soon found herself working for Alberta Blue Cross. It wasn’t long before she had the opportunity to work as the Regional Records Advisor for the Technology and Innovation Ministry for the Government of Alberta. She remained there until she could no longer work, missing retirement by just one short year.

Shannon prided herself in her garden; enjoying fresh garden peas in the heat of July, and canning vegetables and fruit to enjoy throughout the rest of the year. She excelled at all things artistic, including painting, sewing, crocheting, quilting and any and all DIY projects.

She learned to ride a motorcycle at the age of 7 and spent many hours riding trails with her cousins up in the mountains.

She was a summer girl through and through, enjoying many hours in the boat out on the lake from a very young age, particularly with Uncle Ken and Auntie Bev. Boating was a mainstay right up to her last summer on the lake– Boat Camping, as her grandson Bennett calls it, in her and Bernie’s boat.

Shannon and Bernie were fortunate to travel to many places in the world including Mexico, dozens of states in the US, Bahamas, St. Maartin, St. Lucia, St. Baarts, the South of France, Honduras, and an epic sailing cruise through the Caribbean.

We are thankful that there were many there to meet her when she passed. Dad Garry Hoglund, In-Law’s Nick and Lillian Lastuka, aunts and uncles Ken, Bev, and Neal Hoglund; Kathleen and Merv Fox, and cousins Dale Fox, and Emma Armstrong. And last but certainly not least, her beloved Bernese Mountain Dog, Ozzie.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Chinook Regional Hospital who moved heaven and earth to keep her with us as long as they could and the Palliative Care team as St. Michael’s who helped her with astounding compassion as she made her final journey home.

A Celebration of Shannon's Life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPELS, 610 – 4 Street, South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
