Official Obituary of
27/7/1914 - to - 14/5/2010
RUTH ELIZABETH LARSON of the City of Lethbridge, Alberta beloved wife of the late Norman Leonard Larson, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2010 at the age of 90 years.
Ruth is survived by her children, David Larson (Margaret) of Maple Creek, Sask., Ellen Jefferies (Bruce) of Saudi Arabia, Lorraine Conner (Rodger) of Canmore, AB and Don Larson (Phillis) of Longview, AB. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kate Larson, Michael Larson, Spencer Jefferies, Paige Jefferies, Kyla Conner, Gavin Conner and CJ McCabe as well as her sisters Grace Warner (Clarence) and Phyllis Best (Arne) and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Ruth was born in Terrace, B.C. on July 27, 1919 to William Little and Margaret Griffith, the oldest of seven children. She met and married a handsome radio operator, Norm Larson, on November 25, 1942 and moved to Watson Lake, Yukon while Norm worked for the Department of Transport. Ruth and Norm's four children were born while living in Watson Lake and they made lifelong friends and had numerous adventures living in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Ruth and Norm and family relocated to Lethbridge in 1956 where she resided until her death with her children at her bedside.
Ruth was devoted to her family and to her faith. Ruth and Norm became members of the First Baptist Church upon their arrival in Lethbridge and worked tirelessly at the church in numerous volunteer positions.
To her family, Ruth's life epitomizes the Successful Life immortalized in Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem:
To laugh often and much. She filled her home with laughter with her quick mind and wit.
To win the respect of intelligent people. She welcomed a lively discussion around the kitchen table.
And the affection of children. She administered hugs and kisses and delicious cookies to children.
To appreciate beauty. She ensured her home was filled with flowers and music.
To find the best in others,
To leave the world a bit better,
Whether by a healthy child,
A garden patch,
Or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier
Because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the First Baptist Church 1614 - 5th Ave. S. Lethbridge, AB with Reverend Ron Harris officiating. A reception will follow in the Fireside Annex.
The family wishes to thank Rev. Bruce Martin and Rev. Ron Harris from the First Baptist Church, Dr. A. McPherson, Robin and staff at Adaptacare and all her wonderful friends who showed such love and kindness to our mother.
