John Krahn

Official Obituary of

30/6/1961 - to - 8/9/2024

John Ernest Krahn passed away suddenly at Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the age of 63.

John is survived by his Siblings Jake Bueckert, Dan Krahn, Stella and Tomo Kedoin, Neil and Rosalee Krahn, Katherine Krahn, Henry and Caroline Krahn, James and Dawn Krahn, Bernie and Corenna Krahn, Tim and Evi Krahn and Margie and Brian Schellenberg as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

John was pre-deceased by his parents, David and Anna Krahn, his sisters Judy Bueckert, Mary Krahn and Helen Krahn.

John was born June 30, 1961, in Fort Vermillion, AB.  Due to his special needs, he attended a few different schools through the years including the Peace School of Hope in Grande Prairie, AB and Dorothy Gooder School in Lethbridge, AB.  As he grew his needs changed and he was enrolled in different programs to help meet those needs.

Since 1993, John has been in the care of Rehoboth Ministries in both Coaldale and Lethbridge.  Many of the staff at Rehoboth have known John for a lot of years and are like family to him.  They had a great rapport with John and, as his siblings, we are forever grateful for their care of John.  Rehoboth Ministries made a point of involving John in as many activities as possible when he was willing and able.  For many years he lived in different group homes in Coaldale and then moved to Lethbridge into the retirement program where the goal was to keep him as engaged and active as possible.   When Rehoboth built Christopher Place a few years ago, John was moved into that facility where the staff were better able to care for him with barrier free living.

While still in Coaldale, John worked at the Rehoboth greenhouse where one of his favorite things to do was make coffee!  He would do other small jobs as well like watering plants and sweeping the floors.

He loved horses and dogs and Pat Benatar and Patsy Cline music.  He appreciated when family would come to visit him or call him on the phone and loved getting mail.  He was quite happy to attend family gatherings where he enjoyed the fun, food and, of course, coffee!

John will be remembered for his great laugh, infectious smile and certain phrases that he would repeat over and over.  Such as “Exactly”, “Don’t worry about it”, and “Dunkel Zonasheen” (low german for dark sunshine).  His most recent one was “not funny.  Not funny at all” followed by a giggle.  John was quite happy in his earlier years but he had many struggles and behavioural issues in his mid-years.  However, he has been quite stable here in the last number of years due to the good care he has been getting.

John will be laid to rest at Royal View Cemetery in Lethbridge, AB on Monday, September 16, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Rehoboth Christian Ministries.
