Gerrit and Gerry were married in Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1954. Gerrit loved the Lord, and was very involved in his church as deacon and elder. He worked as a welder and machinist at Noble Cultivator, Edwards Rodweeder, Ingersoll-Rand (Chicago) & Eastend Iron Industries Ltd. He loved family gatherings, being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gerrit was a man of many talents, and spent countless hours with his children on any project, from woodworking, welding, painting, gardening or remodeling. He enjoyed living on his hobby farm and loved his animals.
He was also active in the community, serving on the advisory committee of Rehoboth Christian Ministries. He was on the Board of the Coaldale Food Bank, and helped at many of their events.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rehoboth Christian Ministries Coaldale, at Box 1312 Coaldale, AB, T1M1N1, or the Coaldale Food Bank, at Box 45, Coaldale AB, T1M1N2.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Canadian Reformed Church on Hwy #3 West in Coaldale with Reverend D. Poppe officiating.
Dad's quiet steadfast faith is an example to us all.
