Robert Kimmitt

Official Obituary of

6/12/1911 - to - 11/11/2007

ROBERT (BOB) AMBROSE KIMMITT, our dear father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2007 at the age of 95. Bob and his beloved wife, Ethel, are united again. Bob leaves behind his son David Kimmitt, and daughters Mardi Renyk and Patti Pelkie (Dennis). Bob's grandchildren, Darcy, Sandy, Barb (Eric Arrata), Grahame, Chris, Jane, Dan and Jill will keep their memories of their grandfather forever in their hearts. And Bob took delight in hearing stories about his great-grandchildren, Tatum, Elan and Anna.

Bob grew up in southern Alberta, watched over and loved by his extended family. He married Ethel Davidson in 1939. Together they raised their family while Bob taught school and ultimately completed a Masters of Education. The culmination of his working career was serving for many years as the first Superintendent of the Lethbridge Catholic School District. He also served his church and the community of Lethbridge in many capacities for many years, volunteering his time and talents. Following his retirement, Bob volunteered as Superintendent for a large school district in Northern B.C. He and Ethel then returned to Lethbridge to spend their retirement years.

As a young man, Bob read all the classics, as he would tell, ""by the light of a coal oil lamp"". He yearned to travel to see the places his reading had taken him. And so, once back in Lethbridge and truly retired, he and Ethel wandered the globe. His grandchildren would often say, ""Grandpa has been everywhere - twice!"" In his travels, he sought out Catholic churches from Moscow to Calcutta and in all he undertook, he was guided by his faith.

Our dad and grandfather often said and earnestly believed ""the world is based on honesty"", ""there are good people everywhere"", and ""every land has little brown sparrows"". We learned from him and will pass on to future generations his legacy to us - love of family, respect for our planet and its people, and the great gift of faith. And so now he goes to God with, as those who knew and loved him would understand, a cheerful ""tra la la!""
Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00PM on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, led by Frances and Cybele Noronha.
