Official Obituary of
28/7/1929 - to - 4/8/2020
Annie (Annigje) Ketel, of Lethbridge passed away suddenly, on Tuesday August 4, 2020, at Chinook Regional Hospital, at the age of 91.
She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years John (Johannes) and her son Ralph John.
Annie was born on July 28, 1929 to Roelof and Margje Karsten in Nyeveen, Drente. She grew up on a farm and desired to pursue a career in teaching. But following World War II the Karsten family decided to emigrate from the Netherlands for a fresh start in Canada. In May 1948, they boarded the ship named ‘Tibinta’ in Rotterdam for the ten-day voyage. It was on this voyage that Annie first met and became acquainted with John Ketel and by the end of her journey she was smitten.
They were married April 30, 1950 in Iron Springs. Over the years they lived in Smithers, Taber, Calgary, Coaldale, Park Lake area and Lethbridge. Annie is survived by three children and their spouses, Marty (Jacky) of Lethbridge, Gwynn of Kelowna, Andrew (June) of Edmonton and Margaret of Pasco, Washington. Along with nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Annie was a devoted wife and mother, making the home the focus of her efforts. She enjoyed singing in the choir, knitting, crocheting, needlepointing, ceramics painting, bowling, card games and walks around Henderson Lake. Every spring she loved to take in the beauty of the Flowering Crab trees in the city of Lethbridge and never tired of songbirds. But her greatest devotion was her faith, from which we draw comfort knowing that now she is in her eternal abode with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Monday, August 10, 2020 at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, 260 McGill Blvd West, Lethbridge.
