Frieda Isaac
Official Obituary of
22/3/1936 - to - 14/7/2008
FRIEDA ISAAC ( nee BRAUER) passed away in Lethbridge on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the age of 93 years, predeceased by her husband, Frank Isaac of Coaldale in August, 1996.
Born in the Ukraine, the late Frieda Isaac came to Canada and to Central Alberta with her family when she was ten years old. She enjoyed telling the stories of her incredible journey to Canada and especially the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by ship.
Frieda was married to Frank Isaac in Swalwell, Alberta on March 22, 1936. Together they moved to Coaldale in 1937 where she remained a resident until the time of her death. Frank and Frieda were able to celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary with all their children in attendance in 1996.
She was a proud Canadian citizen and showed great interest in the civic affairs of Coaldale during all her years there. Frieda was a member of the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church and enjoyed donating and arranging the flowers for the services and for weddings. The flowers came from her beautiful gardens, which she tended with care. She was also a member of a sewing group at the church. In later years when she was no longer able to attend services, she still devoted her time and energy to the church by donating batting for quilts and ""adopting"" a small Sunday School class of the younger children. She loved making seasonal and special day crafts to be presented to the children. They lovingly called her ""Tante Frieda"". They gave her much joy.
She is survived by daughters, Georgina (Lynn) Moir and Frances Hadford and by a son, Frank (Mary-Ann) Isaac of Lethbridge. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Beside the love for her immediate family, Frieda also took great interest in her numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Frieda's eldest daughter, Marianne, passed away suddenly in 1999 and Marianne's husband Egon passed away in early 2006. Frieda was also predeceased by Frances' husband Gary Hadford in 2000. Her sisters also predeceased her, Mary Cressman, Elizabeth Brauer, and recently Katherine (Michael) Haynes. Surviving in-laws are George and Marguerite Isaac, Mary Rowland (nee Isaac), Michael Haynes, and Alda Isaac.
Please remember Frieda for the compassion, generosity, goodness, and joy she brought into this world.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 19,2008 at the MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 - 18 Street, Coaldale. A private family graveside service will have already been completed.
Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Frieda's favorite charity: Mennonite Central Committee, Suite #210, 2946-32 Street NE, Calgary, AB, T1Y 6J7 (403) 275-6935, 1-888-622-6337 *toll-free, http://mcc.org/alberta/
