MRS. GLADYS DELORES HUTCHINSON of Lethbridge passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital with her sons by her side on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the age of 80 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard in April of 2011.
Gladys is survived by her sister, Adeline Stephens (Milton-Freewater, Oregon), her daughter Carol Hutchinson of Salem, Oregon; her son Ron (Gloria) Hutchinson of Denver, Colorado; her son Rod (Ruth) Hutchinson of Lethbridge; as well as her grandchildren: Monika Coleman (Hans) and Ron Hutchinson of Denver; Jason Hutchinson (Tara) of Lethbridge and Trista Lindsay (Tyler) of Warner; one great-grandchild, Cooper Lindsay.
She was born on January 20, 1931 in Milton-Freewater, Oregon to John and Rachel Schindler, the youngest of 5 children. She grew up in Oregon and was living and working in Portland, Oregon when she met Howard. After a brief courtship they were married on December 11, 1954. Gladys had two children, Carol and Ron, by a previous marriage. A third child was born to Gladys and Howard, Rod, in 1955.
She and Howard lived in various places in Oregon until they immigrated to Canada in 1972 when they took up residence in Skiff. She was active in the Skiff and Foremost communities until Howard's retirement in 2000 when they moved to Lethbridge. Both Gladys and Howard were active in Alberta Flying Farmers and Sunny South Sams. Several times she served as Queen for Alberta Flying Farmers. Gladys was also active in the activities of Park Meadows Baptist Church. During her time at Sunrise Village she helped bake the Tuesday treats, set up tables for holiday functions, and decorated. She loved the horse races and bingo, especially when she could win. For both Park Meadows Baptist Church and Sunrise Village, she made sure everyone received a birthday or anniversary card.
Gladys was known for the dinner parties that she loved to give. She also loved to travel with Howard and both of them had opportunities to visit many places during their marriage. The last trip she made with Howard and her children was to Hawaii and it was one of her fondest memories. She was a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 12 noon to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, prior to the service, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL.
