Lucy Howe
Official Obituary of
10/5/1917 - to - 7/8/2011
MRS. LUCY MARTHA KERCHKI HOWE of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Wilhelm Howe, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, at the age of 94 years on Saturday, August 7, 2011.
Lucy was born on May 10, 1917 in Poland, where she married Wilhelm Karl Howe in 1937. During their life in East Germany they added four children to their family. Lucy fled to West Germany during World War II with her four children. Her husband, after being prisoner of war in England, joined Lucy and their four children in Ludingworth, Germany, where they resided for 11 years and were blessed with a fifth child. In 1955, Lucy and her husband Wilhelm, with their five children, moved to Canada. Within a few years they purchased a farm near Diamond City, where Lucy and her husband resided until 1977. They then sold the farm and moved to Lethbridge. Two days after their move to Lethbridge, Lucy lost her best friend and soul mate, Wilhelm, to cancer. She then resided most of her remaining life in Lethbridge, with her son-in-law Erik and daughter Christel until her passing.
Lucy loved going to church and had a strong faith in the Lord. She loved cooking, baking, hooking rugs, knitting and gardening, but most of all working side by side with her husband. The best times in her life were when Lucy (Omie) and Wilhelm (Opie) would cook and bake together for all their children and grandchildren. What wonderful times they were. Lucy lived for her family and loved them ""Dearly"".
She has sadly left behind to mourn her passing, her children Harry (Louisa) Howe of Lethbridge, Trudy (Alfred) Fellger of Lethbridge, Hilde (Felixe) Kutzner of Trail, BC, Willi (Diane) Howe of Edmonton and Christel (Erik) Pederson of Lethbridge, 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Lucy was predeceased by her husband Wilhelm Karl Howe, granddaughter Eyvette Howe and great-grandson Danniel Killough.
We'd like to thank Greystokes for all their help, especially Joy, Mary Lou, Lucci, Doreen, Ashlee and Kim.
Our Dear Omil, you will always be dearly loved and missed every day. God bless you and give you peace until we meet again.
In accordance with Lucy's wishes, a Private Family Service will be held at 11:00am, on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
