DENNIS FRANKLIN HOOEY

May 16, 1941 ~ September 13, 2011

DENNIS FRANKLIN HOOEY passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at St. Michael's Palliative Care Unit after a brief battle with cancer.

Dennis is survived by his wife Jude; children Tracey (Loewen) Schmidt of Fox Creek, AB and Kent (Kim) Hooey of Swan Hills, AB; stepchildren Jennifer (Dale) Warren of Vulcan, AB, David (Vivian) Forestell of Hong Kong, and Suzanne (Javier) Solsona of California; grandchildren Jared and Lilly Schmidt, Brodie Hooey, Hayley, Cameron and Ethan Warren, and Nash and Rio Solsona. He also leaves behind many friends and family who will miss him.

Dennis was born on May 16, 1941 in Swift Current, SK to Frank and Lillian Hooey. He was raised and attended school in Swift Current. After high school, he began working for Ducks Unlimited as a biological technician. He always said that this was the best job in the world.

Dennis met Jude in 1987 at the Craven Rodeo. They were married in 1989. Dennis owned and operated a second hand shop in Airdrie. All of his life he loved to ""wheel and deal"".

In 1995, Dennis and Jude opened Archery Unlimited. Dennis enjoyed the people and working on archery equipment. He taught many archers how to shoot ""stick"" bows because that was one of his passions. Dennis was an avid archer, hunter, guide, camper, and fisherman. Dennis was a national and provincial champion archer who was inducted, along with his wife, into the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

After retiring, Dennis began to do taxidermy work. He was meticulous and spent many hours perfecting the mounts.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren of whom he was very proud.

Dennis will be sadly missed by his loving family and many dear friends.

A Memorial Reception will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Country Kitchen Catering, 1715 Mayor Magrath Dr. South, Lethbridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dennis's name to the Archery Canada Foundation at Archery Canada Tir
