Carl Melvin Hawkins
Official Obituary of
7/10/1935 - to - 7/1/2022
Carl Melvin Hawkins of Lethbridge/Calgary Alberta beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Irene Hawkins passed away after a lengthy illness on January 7, 2022 at the age of 86 years.
Carl was born October 7, 1935, in Melville New Brunswick. He was the eldest of 8 children and son to Bertha and Harold Hawkins. He spent his early years in New Brunswick receiving a certificate for Journeyman Automotive Technician.
Carl worked at an automotive shop in the early sixties where he met his beloved wife Elizabeth or Betty as we all called her. They had four children Terry, Dale, Rodney, and Melissa all born in Fredericton New Brunswick.
In the early seventies Carl packed up his family in a two door Ford Fairlane and a travel trailer just big enough to live in and headed to Alberta. The family lived in this little trailer till he was able to find work and settle the family in a more permanent home. Carl succeeded to find a more sustainable life for him and his family while residing in Alberta till his passing.
Carl continued to work as a mechanic during the day and pursed his passion for music on nights and weekends playing in many legions, community events and always looking for the next music jam. During his years of music Carl made many close and adoring friends with the sounds of his guitar.
Carl and Betty spent a lot of their days camping, travelling to New Brunswick every couple of years to see family and friends in their bus. Carl and his sons had converted his 1969 GMC Bus into an RV, decked out with beautiful burgundy paint and portrait of an eagle flying over a majestic Alberta Lake. You could not miss Carl and Betty coming down the road.
Carl is survived by his daughter Melissa and her husband Jim, sons Dale, Rodney and his wife Bonnie, grandchildren Cole, Dustin, Evann, Cori and her husband Nathan. Carl is also survived by his sisters Shirley, Norma, Marguerite, and Anita, brothers Claire and Brian as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families. He is also survived by his loving companion Dora Poch.
Besides his loving wife Betty, Carl was predeceased by his parents Harold and Bertha Hawkins his son Terry and brother Stan.
