Sharon Harper

Official Obituary of

22/1/1939 - to - 17/7/2020

Mrs. Sharon Harper of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. George Harper, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the age of 81 years.

Sharon was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Sharon Edyth Lunde, on January 22, 1939, in the Galt Hospital. After completion of grade 11, Sharon obtained a position with Alberta Government Telephone as a telephone operator. She belonged to St. Andrews Church, where she attended Sunday school, youth group C.G.I.T. and Brownies.

Sharon followed George to Germany where they were married on April 18, 1958, in Hemmer, Germany. They were transferred to different locations during their 25 years with the Canadian Army, such as Fredericton, N.B., Shilo, Manitoba and lastly, Lethbridge, Alberta.

Following her return to Lethbridge, Sharon joined the Lethbridge Ladies Auxiliary to General Stewart Branch Legion in October 1975. Sharon soon got involved and remained active well into her 70’s.

During her tenure with the Auxiliary she had served in most positions on the Executive including President, as well as President of Legion Senior Housing and Welfare, and the Legion Housing Committee. She was one of the founding members of the Ex-Service Personnel Committee, which operated for more than 20 years.

Sharon’s work with the Legion was recognized through several awards that included Legionnaire of the year from the Branch, the Branch Poppy Award, Life Membership, Meritorious Service Award, the Palm Lead Award, and a special award for her work with the Ex-Service Personnel Committee.

Sharon was most proud to have her daughter, Lynda, and granddaughter Kelsea, join her in the Ladies Auxiliary, representing three generations of one family, all serving on the executive together.

Sharon is survived by her daughters Lynda Sharon (Derek) Bly, Diana Lee (Morgan) Tudor, Brenda Joyce Nickle; son David George Ejnar (Katie) Harper; grandchildren Gaige Bly, Ryan Bly (Cass), Kelsea Bly (Zach), Nolan Tudor (Kirsten), Matthew Tudor (Jaycee), Jordan Tudor (Lulu), Jasmine Harper, Robert Harper (Melissa), Dustin Harper and Eli Harper; great grandchildren John Bly, Luke Zalaski, Charlie Tudor, Kingston Tudor, Emmett Tudor and Morgan Junior Tudor; sisters Joyce (George) Kosowan and family, Joan (Ted) Garrow and family.

Sharon was predeceased by her parents Ejnar and Myra Lunde.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
