Alida Hanhart

Official Obituary of

28/11/1930 - to - 12/1/2022

Mrs. Alida Hanhart of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Piet Hanhart, passed away at Adaptacare on Wednesday January 12 at the age of 91 years.

Alida Hanhart (nee Steneker) was born in Overveen, the Netherlands on November 28, 1930, the sixth of seven children. Following the war, she was engaged to Piet Hanhart in Holland. She immigrated to Canada in 1953 where she settled in Lethbridge. Piet and Alida were married on September 19, 1953.

Over the course of the next decade, Alida and Piet had four children: Steve, Gerri, Carol, and Anita. Alida enjoyed staying at home and raising her family. In 1974, Alida and Piet bought an acreage close to Kipp where they resided for the next 20 years, creating a beautiful home where the extended family would meet together. In addition to raising her family, Alida enjoyed gardening and piano playing.

Alida was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She recently said that not one of her grandchildren had failed her and that they had all done her proud. Her home was a meeting spot for family, where there was always good food and conversation. In addition, she was an avid walker and could often be seen walking through South Lethbridge.

Alida leaves to mourn her children: son Steve (Jola) Hanhart and their children Ben (Cassandra), Lindsay (Chris), Rachel (Jonny), Luke (Sara) and their grand-children Will, Cadence, Parker, Breanna-Lynn, Oliver, and Mataya; daughter Gerri (John) Wilson and their children Jonathan (Ashel), Alyssa (Aaron), Michael (Alicia), and their grand-children Evelyn, Olivia, and Emilia; daughter Carol (Ron) Kundrik and their children Sara (Jacques), Emily, and Rebecca (Nathan), and their grand-daughter Elizabeth; and daughter Anita (Kevin) and their children Stephanie (Josiah), Thomas/ T.J. (Aimee Beth), Tasha (Chris), Tyler (Emily), and their grand-children Victoria, Archer, Avalyn, Jude, Alida, and Paxon. She is also survived by her sister Coby, and two brothers, Con and Gus and their families.

Alida was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother Dick, and her sisters Mineke and Gerri.

At Alida’s request, she will be remembered privately by her family and friends.

Flowers are gratefully declined.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the YMCA of Lethbridge, 74 Mauretania Rd W #140, Lethbridge, AB T1J 5A8 or Streets Alive 323 4 St S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 1Z9.
