Lena Hale

Official Obituary of

29/1/1934 - to - 13/3/2025

It is with profound sadness and loss that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Lena Hale on March 13, 2025, at age 91.  Lena passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit in Saskatoon.

Lena Breitkreitz was born in Rosetown, SK on January 29, 1934, the youngest of six children.  Her early years were spent on the family farm before moving to Biggar and then attending Scott Business College in Saskatoon.  After graduation, Lena went to work at Robin Hood where she met and then married Don Hale.  Don’s work took him, Lena and their family on a journey across Canada from Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Montreal, St. John’s, Stratford and Lethbridge.

Lena and Don enjoyed 43 years in Lethbridge where Lena was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and Henderson Lake Golf Club.  First and foremost, Lena loved and was devoted to her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was rarely idle and gave all her energy and attention to every endeavour including being a talented artist and a superb cook. She also enjoyed music and twirling on the dance floor.

Lena is lovingly remembered and will be missed by daughters Brenda (Gordon) Jensen, Mona (Chris Barclay) Hale; grandsons Jonathan (Anna Clara) Jensen and Graham (Jannaya Friggstad) Jensen and great- granddaughter Solveig Lilja Jensen.

Lena is predeceased by her husband Don, who passed away in 2018. She was also predeceased by her two sisters and three brothers, and parents Fred and Emilia Breitkreitz.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Friday, April 25, 2025, at THE  LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 11 Ave S, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Pastor Tom Peterson, officiating.  The service will be livestreamed at https://youtube.com/@goodshepherdlutheranlethbridge

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lena’s name may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories #40, 1202 - 2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 0E3.
