William Richard Gibson of Lethbridge passed away on September 21, 2009 at the age of 65 years.
Bill is survived by his wife Carol; his three daughters Cari (Dave Roberts), Cathy (Trevor Epp) and Cissy (Wade Horrocks); his grandchildren Hope, Flynn, Sydney, Wren, and Ainsley; his mother Edith Gibson; his three sisters Beverley Easton, Linda (Tim Cumming), and Barbara (Terry Carlyle); and his brother Brian Gibson (Joyce); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and their families.
Bill was predeceased by his father William Gibson, his brother Robert Gibson, his brother-in-law Herb Easton, as well as his grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Bill was born in Edmonton on May 2, 1944, and was raised in Edmonton and Calgary. He moved to Lethbridge as a young adult, and raised his family in the community. He worked for 3M in Calgary and Lethbridge for 16 years before starting his own business, Gibson Audio Visual, which he ran for close to 30 years in Lethbridge.
Bill took great pride in his strong community involvement. He was the President of the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce for two terms from 1987-1989. He was also involved with local politics and federal government boards.
Bill thoroughly enjoyed living in Southern Alberta. Every morning, he would walk at Pavan Park to enjoy nature and welcome the dawn of the new day. He also loved spending time in Great Falls, Montana, especially during 4th of July celebrations. Bill was an avid gardener, and every year he would share his harvest with family and friends. He also planted a special rose bush for each one of his grandchildren. His family is grateful that Bill was able to enjoy his wonderful garden for one more season before he passed away on the last day of summer.
Bill's family would like to honour him, not the illness that took his life. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 25, 2009 at the FLARE 'N DERRICK HALL in Turner Valley, Alberta. Interment will follow at a later date at Christ Church in Millarville.
Bill's family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Lethbridge Regional Hospital and St. Michael's Palliative Care Unit.
