Dorothy Gibb 1926 ~ 2013

Dorothy Gibb of Barons, Alberta passed away peacefully on August 9, 2013. Dorothy was born on April 7, 1926 in Glace Bay Nova Scotia daughter to Anne and Albert Strickland. Her mother was a beautiful seamstress and worked in a millinery shop. Her father worked in the coal mines and then later in a fish factory. Dorothy's mother and father passed away early in her life and she and her sister Margaret moved to Montreal to find work. During the war Dorothy worked in the mess hall at a military training centre where she met Glen Gibb. Glen sent her train fare to Alberta as a marriage proposal and she left for the west to start a new life and a family. Dorothy, like her mother, loved to sew and made many tailored outfits for the children. She also loved to sing and music was a big part of the Gibb family. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion. For many years the Gibb family entered a float in the annual Barons Sports Day parade. But Dorothy's greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy will be remembered by Judie Gibb and her husband Russ Silsbe and children JoDee, and Brett and his wife Shana; Gail (Klinkhammer) Gibb and her children David, Darren and Michelle; Carol (Gibb) Noble, husband Bryan and their children Jayne (Noble) Baun and her husband Justin, Andrea Noble, Michael and his wife Jessica; Larry and Gail (Paskuski) Gibb and their children Josh and his wife Sara, and Chad and his wife Roisin; Bill and Robbin (Valgardson) Gibb and their children Kirsty and her husband Kevin, and Jeff and his wife Maggie; Barbara (Gibb) Greendale and her husband Peter and their daughter Emma; Deborah (Gibb) Currington and her husband Andrew and their children Chelsea and Greg; Deanne Gibb; and 11 great grandchildren. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Glen, son James, sister Margaret, and brother Harold. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a Memorial Celebration in her honour from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.
