MS. LYDIA GERTH (LEE) of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the age of 83 years.
Lydia is survived by her sister Freda; sister-in-law Gertie; numerous nieces, nephews, greats, and great-greats. She is predeceased by her mother Helen; father Fredrich; brothers Gustav, Robert, and William; and sister Elsie.
Lydia was raised and educated in the Summerdale, Barrhead area. Following her education, she supervised at various schools for three years, then moved to Victoria and worked at the Parliament buildings. Lydia then returned to Edmonton where she worked for three years at the Bank of Montreal. In 1951, she moved to Yellowknife to work for the Canadian Bank of Commerce, where she enjoyed playing ball, and started curling in her spare time. In 1953, she transferred to Lethbridge where she was appointed Assistant Accountant in 1957; appointed the first female Accountant in Alberta in 1961; and Manager of the 515 13 St. Branch in 1968. In 1983, she took early retirement so she could spend more time camping, fishing, travelling and gardening.
