CINDY JANET MICHELLE GARANT of Lethbridge, Alberta beloved wife of Kenneth James Garant, passed away suddenly on June 29, 2011 at the age of 45 years.
Cindy was born in Brookfield, Newfoundland and moved to Lethbridge with her family in 1973. After graduating from the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, Cindy went on to further her education through the Lethbridge Community College. While working in retail Cindy met and married the love of her life Ken. Through marriage, Cindy also gained a daughter Taunya. In 1992 Cindy gave birth to the second love of her life, Dakotah Rene. Cindy always volunteered in Dakotah's activities and when Dakotah found his passion for lacrosse Cindy became heavily involved as a board member with the Lethbridge Lacrosse Association and the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. Cindy and Ken found great joy in watching their son play lacrosse and enjoyed the numerous road trips they took to do so. It was not uncommon to see Cindy and Taunya working in the scorekeeper's box and Ken cheering from the stands during most of Dakotah's lacrosse games. Cindy and Taunya's shared love for watching Dakotah served to further strengthen their unique bond. As Executive Assistant for the Green Acres Foundation, Cindy's love for travel was fueled by the numerous trips that her and Dawna took. Through their travels Cindy and Dawna became more than just co-workers, they became true friends.
Cindy loved her family and always went out of her way to ensure they were taken care of. Cindy was always positive and had a unique ability to bring anyone's spirits up with her calm and wise demeanor. Cindy was a passionate, caring and compassionate person who brought out the best in others by always leading by example. Every task, duty or responsibility that Cindy took on was not only completed, but it was done to perfection.
Besides her loving husband Ken, Cindy is survived by her son Dakotah Rene, daughter Taunya Kristina, parents Millie and Rich Shewchuk, Brother Rich, his wife Jill and their two children Jordyn and Preston, niece and nephew Kennedy and Kyler as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. Cindy was predeceased by her sister Tonya.
A Celebration of Cindy's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday July 6, 2011, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th Street South, Lethbridge.
Cindy's family would like to thank the staff of the Intensive Care Unit of the Chinook Regional Hospital for the amazing care, compassion and dedication they showed to Cindy and her family.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 10 St S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2M7.
