MR. GEORGE FURO of Lethbridge, a very dear and beloved husband of Annette Furo, passed away with Annette at his side, at the Chinook Regional Hospital following a lengthy and valiant struggle with Parkinson's Disease, on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the age of 72 years.

George was born February 11, 1936 in Nyirabrany, Hungary and came to Canada on the Greek liner Columbia, arriving in Halifax March 23, 1957. After coming directly to Calgary, George worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Parkland and then Canada Packers in Calgary before coming to Lethbridge in 1962. In Lethbridge George worked for C.D.M., Burns Meat, and Maple Leaf Meats before retiring due to ill health. He and Annette were married on August 23, 1969. Annette has multiple memories of all the great times they enjoyed together from that day on. They spent many weekends and holidays camping, fishing and enjoying friends at their cabin at Duck Lake, Montana. They made many trips to Hungary to visit family. Over the years George's parents, sister and brother-in-law, and nephew and his family visited them in Canada.

Besides his loving wife Annette, George is survived by his sister Ilonka (Pista) Sári; nephew Tibi (Káti) Sári and their 3 children Judika, Tibike and Kátá all of Hungary; sister-in-law Helen Fudali; brother-in-law Willy Sawchyn and Willy's family Rick (Bernie) Sawchyn, Dwayne (Genevieve) Sawchyn and Karen (Randy) Backs and their families; dear friends Frank and Sharon Toth and their sons Vince and Jim; as well as many friends too numerous to mention. George was predeceased by his father Sándor Furo, mother Mária Furo, father-in-law William Sawchyn Sr., mother-in-law Natalie Sawchyn and many aunts and uncles and cousins. George will be fondly remembered by many relatives and friends.

Funeral ""Parastasis"" Prayers will be celebrated at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at SS. PETER AND PAUL GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 643 - 12B Street North, Lethbridge.

Funeral ""Divine Liturgy"" Prayers will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, December 19, 2008 at SS. PETER AND PAUL GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Father Gary Sedgwick, celebrant. Interment to follow in Guy, Alberta at a later date.
